Tate or Lama Family Name

Post by rgmb »

My husband's grandmother was born in Casano Italy on March 27, 1890. She arrived in the US and went to Chicago with her brothers Adam and Louis. Her name is shown on records as Emma (Tate) Lama. Any ideas or help - including whether or not these names could have been changed upon arrival in the US? Thanks so much.

Casano is a "frazione" (suburb or absorbed village) of the town (comune) of Ortonovo, 19034, (la Spezia province, Liguria region). There are 3 Lama in La Spezia but none in Ortonova. Go to owww.paginebianche.it and put in Lama in the first line and SP for province of La Spezia and click CERCA for the listings.

If you wish to write to these persons as potential relatives or to Ortonova for documents go to http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... tters.html for form letters in Italian

To find mailing address for Ortonova go to www.nonsolocap.it and put in Ortonovo and then click on Ortonovo and scroll down to "municipio" for Ufficio di Stato Civile address.

Thanks for your response. However, I just noticed I spelled the name wrong. Her place of birth was CANSANO which i believe is in the region of Abruzzo, am I correct? Thanks,

Hi: Yes, this is the correct person. She's listed here in Toledo with her brothers. But, I'm still having no luck with the last name Pate as shown. Emma's death certificate shows Tate as her maiden name. Thanks.
