Musacchia

Post by Marlena »

Can you help me find the passenger list/manifest for a Giovanni Musacchia born in 23 Mar,1877 from Cefalu, Sicily. I have found a 1930 census from San Francisco that says he came here in 1898 and was married to Katherine who came here in 1904. His online death cert. says his mother was a Buonadon, possibly Buonadonna.

I am not 100% sure he is from Cefalu but this is what my husbands family says. I have ordered his death certificate but in the mean time I'd like to find the passenger information.

Thank you as always,
Marlene Rinella Caredio

Hi Marlene,

it's just a little clue but I believe it should be helpful to find the arrival manifest at least for Katherine...

Don't know if you have John's military enlistment for the first World War:

World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918
about Giovani Musachio
Name: Giovani Musachio
City: San Francisco
County: San Francisco
State: California
Birth Date: 23 Mar 1877
Race: White
Roll: 1543941
DraftBoard: 4

If this is "your" John Musacchia he stated his wife as nearest relative and her first name was Gaetana (possible Katherine was the Americanized version)
Address: 25 Wilder? street - San Francisco

Hope this helps!

There is a group of Musacchia who arrived in 1898 but none with the firstname of Giovanni. He may have another legal first name. Go to www.castlegarden.org and typpe inMusacchia and nothing else and the listing will show up for the 1898 arrivals in the very beginning. =Peter=

Laura and Peter,
Thank you, that WWI reg. is him and I see his wife's names at the very bottom spelled out "Catherine". The "G" in Gaetana is crossed out? I'll research that. His last name is spelled a bit different so I'll do some searching with a few more variations.

Peter, those names on the 1898 didn't seem to make a fit even with the different spelling "Masachio" spelling he used in WWI. I will go back to Ancestry or Ellis boards and see what I can dredge up.

Thank you both for you help.

Pink67,
That must be them...how did you find that spelling in your search? The family didn't think John had a brother but then the family history is sketchy. That 1910 census pretty much matches the info in the 1930 census.
I'll have to ask the family on the address but I think this is the family. Thank you so much.
Marlene

Misbris, I hae seen that manifest but I'm not sure but I'll check with the family. Thank you also.

Marlene, you're welcome... :D
If the 1910 census is correct it seems John had not only that brother (Francesco)... have you noticed that Concetta Musacchia (their mother) stated she had 9 child among whom 7 living at the time of the census? :)

Laura

edit to add:

don't you think these could be the birth dates for the youngest daughter of John and Catherine?

and these should be the birth dates of Frank and Carmlea Musacchia's daughter Rose?

Pink67 !!!

Yes, that is the family! When I asked my husband if name Dioguardi was familiar his eyes lit up like a christmas tree! Here all this time my husband said his g-grandfather was an only child...even I found that one hard to swallow. That is amazing the information you have found. Thank you so, so much. Annie is my husbands grandmother and she recently died at 99 years old and her sister Bernice just died last month at 99, wow.
Thanks again, Marlene

Laura, I do have a membership to ancestry.com but I guess I don't know how you are coming up finding family listed with misspellings. I do know Ellis island site has a "sound like/start with" options. What am I missing with ancestry.com?

Would you please post the other findings...

My latest attempt is finding Concetta Musacchia death info. I did use vitalsearch.com link for California and found one Concetta 65 y/o that died 11-29-12 but what does the "o" at the end mean- one index said that it meant she would be over 100 but I think my Concetta was born around 1953 or so.

Thanks as always,
Marlene
