Cavalieri, Tangi Families in Faeto, Foggia

Post by margaretanne »

My paternal Great Grandmother was Maria Vincenza Cavalieri, born 2/5/1849 in Faeto, Foggia. She married Donato Antonio Tangi and they had, as far as I know, two children: Vito Tangi, my Grandfather, born 4/18/1882, and Giovanni John Tangi, born 10/23/1876. Vito emigrated to the Johnstown, PA area and John to the Philadelphia PA area.

Any information regarding these families from Faeto would be greatly appreciated.

HI, MargaretAnne.

I'm not sure if it could be of some help, but in my town lives a man with your grandfther's same name and surname (he's only a 60 years younger). I know his roots are in Celle San Vito ( www.celledisanvito.com ), a small village very close to Faeto ( www.comune.faeto.fg.it ). What makes everythin even more interesting is that these two villages share a common and ancient history, having being founded by the a French bataillon in XIII century: that's why people there speak a dialect which has nothing or few to do with the one spoken in the rest of Apulia, being instead very close to the Franco-Provençal language.
To understand better, I suggest you to check this link:
http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minoranza_ ... _in_Puglia (unfortunately only in Italian), and (in English):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franco-Pro ... l_language

Anyway, if you desire, I'll try and contact "my" Vito Tangi, and see if he's interested in getting in touch with you here.

Hope this helps.
Ciao,
Maurizio
