Hello!
We'd be happy to help!
Did Raffaele & Carmela settle in Ohio?
Can find a few records in Cuyahoga county under both Iasalvatore and Salvatore.
Raffaele born abt 1875, Carmela born abt 1880?
Are you looking for your family's US records or Italian records or both?
Thank you!

Hi Sal4,

A few things:

First, in case you didn't know, the town of Piedimonte d'Alife changed it's name and is now Piedimonte Matese. If you are sure that they were from that town then you can order microfilms from the town on the LDS website: www.familysearch.org

If you don't know how to do that I can help you.

If you have census records from the US that should give you an idea of the birthdate and you will know which films to order.

Second, what year did they die? If they lived long enough they may be in the social sec. death index. You can then order the SS-5 app. which often has the parents names on it.

Death certificates sometimes have parents names too. Do you have those?

Another route is to see if your grandfather has WWI draft cards / reg. They often have some valuable info. on there. And many times include the town of birth. (It doesn't hurt to verify).

Lastly, do you know the name of the church they married in in NY? The street they lived on there? Anything that could help you access that marriage record? I have marriage records from NY that include the parents names.

HTH.

Aliza

PS- Upload the old Italian records that you have and I'd be glad to take a look at them for you.

I just did a quick check on ancestry.com
Raffaele is in the SS death index. You can order the SS app. right from the ancestry site. They make it easy. They have a letter that is already written out and everything. Just print, mail and drop in you check to SS.

With some luck, this will have his parents' names.

Aliza

If you aren't a member of ancesty I think they still have some free trials out there.

If this is his, it states he arrived in New York on 5 Aug 1902 on the SS Madonna and that Carmela arrived on 10 Feb 1905

Hello!
You’re right, even with the information on Raffaele’s naturalization papers, his and Carmela’s ship manifests are tough to locate.
Here’s some information on the Family History Library and Centers.
Valarie

Italian records:

Your nearest Family History Center has records for Piedimonte d’Alife (since 1970 called Piedimonte Matese) on microfilm.
The cost is about $6 mo (rent), you’ll need to go to the center to order & view them - the staff at the center is very helpful.
I would call your center to check the times they are open.

Family History Library Catalog:

film notes
Registri dello stato civile, 1809-1929
Piedimonte d'Alife (Caserta). Ufficio dello stato civile
Civil registration of births, marriages, deaths, miscellaneous documents, marriage documents, citizenship records, supplements (births, banns, marriages, deaths) for Piedimonte d'Alife, Caserta. Includes annual indexes. Some years missing. Includes records from the frazione of Sepicciano

Hello!
Laura, I'm so glad you found Carmela's manifest :D
Here's her special inquiry page, looks like her age is 25, only had to stay 1 day (LPC likely public charge)

Laura, you're right it is hard to make out if they changed 'brother' to something else.
Under by whom passage was paid, do you read 'foster-brother'?

Hello, Laura and Valarie

Great work by both of you.
