marriage record or obituary

Post by belmoro19 »

Out of curiosity I was wondering if anyone can tell me where I can find an obituary from 1974 in Philadelphia for my grandfather.I have tried to contact the funeral home with no luck.I am not sure where to look.tried several newspapers on line with no avail.
any information would be helpful. His info is Anthony Scaltrito-born May 3,1909 in Philadelphia-died February 4,1974 in Philadelphia.
thank you

For the marriage record you can go to the church, if you know that.

Death record- if it's not archived with the newspapers you'll probably have to go the state archives.

But sometimes universities libraries as well as regular public libraries will have obits there. Best thing to do is call and ask. Local librarians are pretty good about helping with that kind of thing if you're not sure where the records can be found in your area.

Your local family history center might be able to help too. They may even have a lot of local records in their permanent collection on microfilm. www.familysearch.org. Then go to library- family history center, to find the one nearest you.

I think their website is difficult to search, here is the link to a listing of their newspaper collections.
They have in alphabetical list and a chronological listing.

Good Luck in your search.
