Bombardieri and Seminara Families

Post by abombardieri »

Hi,
I am researching two areas of my family genealogy history and was wondering if any of the knowledgebase would be willing to help.

The first is a Great Grandmother’s side of the family. Her name was Marietta Bombardieri married to Peter S. Bombardieri from Boston, Massachusetts. I’ve found the 1930 Census record that does give the DOB for each (1882? for Marietta and 1895 for Peter) Here is the interesting part, her maiden name was Seminara…and according to one of my other Great Grandmothers, Marietta Seminara was related to Guiseppe Seminara, the same Guiseppe Seminara who helped start Prince Pasta Co, (Boston, MA. 1912) I haven’t been able to find much else on Marietta and virtually nothing to date about Guiseppe (silly considering what he has done). I have asked many of my family (Uncles, Aunts, Great Uncle and Great Aunts) but little is known of Marietta other than simple stories.

The second area is on Peter S. Bombardieri and his siblings. I have some info on a couple of his siblings, but not enough to get a real search going. As I said above, the 1930 Census report states he was born in 1895 and resided in Boston, MA, but again not much else is known.

From the site you pointed (about the Pasta :D )

The story of one of America's most beloved pasta brands was born in 1912 when three immigrants from the same village in Sicily, Italy, started a small spaghetti manufacturing company in Boston's North End. The address of their storefront 92 Prince Street.

It was a perfect partnership. Gaetana LaMarca was the administrator, Guiseppe Seminara was the salesman and Michele Cantella was the pasta maker. These entrepreneurs had no way of knowing that their little company would become one of the largest pasta manufacturers in the country.

If you look the 1920 census manifest you'll see the home address for Bombardieri Pietro and wife was 93 Prince Street. In the same house were living Michele Candello (mispelling of Michele Cantella, occupation Macaroni Maker :!: ), La Marca Carmelo and La Marca Angelo with their families..... :)

This is wonderful, thank you so much…

Anthony was my Grandfather and used to work with my Great Uncle Rocco in Boston’s ‘North End’. Anthony, Rocco and Rocco’s wife owned a Bakery, aptly named ‘Bombardieri Bakery’. As I have been told, the city took the small parcel of land by eminent domain to build either the Sumner Tunnel or Callahan Tunnel in Boston. (I’ll have to ask my Dad). The Bakery was relocated to Fields Corner in Dorchester, MA.

Many people remember the Bakery and have told me stories about it.
I will see if any of my family knows about Pasquale Bombardieri.

As for Marietta Seminara, I remember hearing the name Grazia Seminara mentioned to me by one of my Great Uncles…and I had found the name Guiseppa Seminara on Ancestry .com but the DOB threw me off. My family will be thrilled to hear that you have been able add some pieces of the puzzle that have been missing. I will continue to post info as I find it.

Hi Tony,
You just brought back a lot of memories for me. I worked for Rocco and Theresa at the Bakery in Fields Corner many years ago. They hired me because I'm Italian. LOL
I remember the day I told them I lived 5 houses down from the famous "Prince Spaghetti house" behind the Adams St. Library. I never signed my employment application because we talked so much about that house. They made me Family that day!
That house still stands today and is just beautiful, inside and out.
Rocco always made me my very special (sp) Puttaginni. Oh, to die for.
My Paternal Grandfather Giovanni Pasquale had a Butcher shop on Salem St. down the No.End. long before I was born.
That's my mission for joining this wonderful forum, to help me with my research.
Thanks for taking me back to such happy times and Good Luck on your research. :)

Hello, You said that you are related to the family that started Prince Macaroni Co. My Grandmother too was related to them, Her name is Catena LaGuadria (last name could be misspelled) waiting on family to get correct spelling. Catena was born in the town of Catania, Catena had a sister named Angelina and a brother named Joseph but his last name is different, it is DiCarra which means my Greatgrandmother must have been a widow or married before. My Great grandmother and my Great grandfather owned Sulphur mines, they died a year apart when my Grandmother was 9 years old. My Grandmother's family were wealthy and they were sent to live with Aunts that had a large estate. My uncle said during WW 2 he went to see the house and it was closed, they said it was turned into a museum. (We don't no for sure) My Uncle said that the grounds were beautiful and the house was gated. Catena was born Dec. 8 1884. She did not come thru Elise Island, there are no records for her. My cousin said she came thru Philadelphia port and that would have made sense because her sister Angelina was living in Philadelphia. To get records from ships that landed in Philadelphia I have to go down to the National Archives records here in Phila. which I will be going to on Nov. 14. Catena came on the same ship that Guglemo Marconi (wireless radio inventor) but he came to the US. a few times. I do know that one of the ships he was on was the Philadelphia. Catena sister Angelina married in Italy to a Casamado ( last name) (could be missed spelled). Can not find any records on Catena, she died in New Jersey but lived all her live in Philadelphia, she owned a dress shop in Philadelphia named Aunt Katie's dress shop and made wedding grown's. Catena married Gaspare Caruso and had 10 children one died at age 2yrs. So if you are related to the Seminara family then you are related to us either by marriage or blood. Looking forward to hear from you. Lisa

If anyone one on this board that could help finding information about Catena LaGuadria (last name could be misspelled) it would be appreciated. Thank You, Lisa
