MORETTI and CESARE

Post by mmoretti »

I'm looking for my Moretti ancestors from NYC. My g-grandfather, Pasquale Moretti, came to the US from Calabria sometime around 1907. I've found him with my g-grandmother Rosa on Ninth Ave in Manhattan in the 1920 census. I'm unable, however, to get any further into the Moretti history. The Morettis are originally from Cittanova, Calabria.

Also, I'm looking for family of the siblings Gaetano, Rosa and Domenico Cesare who came to America in 1911, 1909 and 1907, respectively. Domenico settled in Bridgeport, CT, and Gaetano later followed him there. Rosa settled in NYC with Pasquale, as I noted above. Their mother, my g-g-grandmother, Raffaela Ferrigno, came over from Genoa with Rosa, but I can't find anything else about her. The Cesares are mainly from Gerace, Calabria. Raffaela was from Maiori.

Thanks for any help!

Michael,
Do you have any US records of the
Moretti & Cesare families?
- census
- manifests
- military
- SSDI
- original birth, marriage, death?
We wouldn't want to duplicate your work.
Thanks! vj

Thank you all for this information. (I'm just reading your responses for the first time today...) The WWI card is perfect! It is my great-grandfather's and I've not seen it before. I have much of the Ellis immigration information already, which is correctly my family (Cesare and Moretti). I would love to find some earlier information from Italy on the families, if anyone has such. Thanks again!

Hi Michael

First locate a Family History Center (FHC) near you - here's the link.
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp

Next write down the film numbers that pertain to Cittanova - I've provided you with the link. The films they have available are from 1809 thru 1865. Birth, death and marriage
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library ... ato+civile++

Order at your nearest FHC and it takes about 2 to 4 weeks to get the films to view. The cost is about $3.75 per film.

You can also locate the other towns and/or provinces you mentioned.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Elizabeth

Micheal,

I have some permanent microfilms on loan at the FHC for Gerace. Need to go to work now but I will re read your post and check to see what I have already transcribed. I may just have something that can help you.

Will post the film numbers as well.

Talk to you soon!

Hi Nuccia... long time since I've been to this thread. 8O

Have you had a chance to check your Gerace microfilms?

Cheers!

Hi Michael

I have been trying to extract some of the films from the FHC for the last year or so. I haven't gotten to Gerace yet but I think I was able to copy one of the indici for Cittanova (now I just have to look for it in this mess). I have stacks of stuff to still put online..promise to try and look for it this weekend. I haven't been back to the FHC for a while (hurt my back and so I have been working on what I have here instead.) Been working mostly on Ardore and on Martone right now.

Keep checking my site at

www.calabriaexchange.com

to see what records go up. I have lost track..
