Missing Immigration Records

Post by nmaritch »

While I am still trying to locate the immigration records for Palma Aiello, I am looking for other relatives (Non Italians) I can find no trace of my great grandfather on the other side (maternal great grandfather) I found my other great grandfather's manifest but there is no mention of his wife and children and his wife was supposed to come at the same time but she is no where to be found. Is there a reason that their might not be a record. I know that things can get transcribed wrong but there is no record of some of these people.

Hi!
No, there should be a manifest.
If you post his wife's & children's names & ages, location, etc. we could help you look.

Sometimes immigrant passengers were detained for administrative reasons on Ellis Island and their names deletedand not admitted into the USA as immigrants from the ships manifest and once the problem was resolved their names were added to the next incoming vessel passenger manifests and admitted into the USA as immigrants. Of course there might be other reasons as well but I have come across this one peculiarity every once in a while. =Peter=

The relatives I can find anything for is Vendel Maritch, we believe he had a brother name Joseph. He married an Elizabeth Schveidler, who came over with her parents Georg and Rose. I found George's record but not Rose or Elizabeth. Elizabeth was my other great grandmother. They came from Hungary.

Elizabeth Schveidler was married to a Julius Ontko, her first husband I believe in 1919. She had a brother Frank and Stephen. I did find her 1920 census listed as Uncore. By the 1930 Census she was married to vendel maritch.

I was always told that Elizabeth immigrated in 1912.

Are there immigration records for people who came to America after Ellis Island Closed?

note: Elllis Island closed in 1954
