birth certificate for displaced refugee from Pola, Istria

I am an elderly Italian American. I was born in Pola, Istria in 1942, which was part of Italy at the time. In 1946 my family and I relocated to Monfalcone, Italy as displaced persons, but all of our documents (birth, marriage, etc.) were sent to somewhere in Italy. I don't know if they were sent to Trieste or Roma. I need an original birth certificate for myself since I am in the process of applying for Italian citizenship. I would appreciate any information that would lead me to find the location of this document. Thank you. Mille grazie.
