Lo Buglio from Bagheria Sicily

Post by lipply »

Please help. My grandfather came to the US in the early 1900s from Bagheria, Sicily he was born in 1881. We are trying to locate information about the heritage. His name was Paola Lo Buglio. He married Rosina Balistreri also from Bagheria. We are not certain of Paola's father's name - it could be Nicolo or Giuseppe LoBuglio. We would like to find his father's name, his father's father's name and possibly his brothers and sisters names. Does anyone know how to get this information from the city hall in Bagheria is all else fails? Any suggestions are welcome.

You bet!

There are quite a few manifests (mostly lined-off, did not sail) on this site.

about lined-off manifests:
http://www.jewishgen.org/infofiles/manifests/left/

He's joining his brother Giuseppe in Buffalo
Does this sound correct?

Do you need any of his US records?

The fastest and most complete subscription site is ancestry. com. It's available at many libraries for use on-site.
Ancestry also offers a 14 day free trial (make sure you cancel on-time to avoid credit card charges)

Many libraries also offer HeritageQuest which you may be able to log onto from home with your library card.

One of the best free sites is the FamilySearch Pilot:
http://search.labs.familysearch.org/rec ... 7819#start

and FamilySearch
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

Many members have subscriptions that may help you locate your US records.

Yes we found something official like that while cleaning out the house. Not sure if he was drafted or not. They must have lived on Lackawanna before they bought the house on Boone St. Or the street changed names. Rose was his wife, my grandmother.

I thank you kindly for all this info.

Brother Giuseppe/Joseph(?) owns the house at 107 Lackawanna Street in 1910 (same addess as Paul's WWI Card)

Both Paul & Joseph named their first son Nicolo/Nicholas, possibly their father's name

Yes, it makes sense that Nicolo is the right name for the father. Especially now that you found those comments about Paolo going to Buffalo to meet with his brother Giuseppe. I don't know much about Giuseppe or their children but since they lived in the same town I should be able find out.

Do you think it would be possible to find info on Nicolo or is that just too far back? Like dates of birth, names of children? I have an old list that my relatives give me, just trying to confirm it. Joseph, Paolo, Jaquino, John (who went to South America) and Mariana.

If father Nicolo came to the US there should be a record, especially a ship manifest.
If he stayed in Italy there will be records in the microfilm at the LDS

If the father Nicolo, the brothers and their sister arrived in New York the manifest(s) should be on the Ellis Island site.

This appears to be another Lo Buglio family in 1920, perhaps Jaquino?

Joseph & family at 107 Lackawanna
Jake (Gioacchino?) & family at 72 Lackawanna - also with a 1st son named Nicolo/Nickie

father Nicolo?

1901 ship manifest

15 Jul 1901, SS Sicilia, Naples to NY
line 6

transcribed as Nicolo Lo Briglio
it's probably Nicolo Lo Buglio 52 (abt 1849)
- married
- mason
- last residence Bagheria
- destination Buffalo NY
- joining son Giuseppe at 635 Michigan Street

No father Nicolo did not come. Will check the film. Not sure about the siblings. I can find some of them but not all. Jaquino sure sounds like it could be Jake. My mom had cousins in the area so I am sure that is them.

I couldn't find my grandmother and then I tried maiden name like you suggested. It looks like she lied. She said she was going to be with her "son" unless that is a mistake. She had her kids with her and they were young.
