Church Records in Palermo

Post by HappyJack »

The Church records in Petralia Sottana were all destroyed by rain, water damage.

Question: Did these village churches send a copy of their records to a main church in Palermo - and if so - what is the name and address of that specific main church? Thanx, Jack

Not sure about the church records being sent elsewhere, but this may help.

The civil records from 1820-1910 were filmed by the LDS:

Your nearest Family History Center has civil records for Petralia Sottana on microfilm.
The cost is about $6 mo (rent), you’ll need to go to the center to order & view them.

The Palermo diocese archives are located at Curia Vescovile,, Diocese di Palermo, Via Matteo Bonello 2, 90134, Palermo (PA), Sicily, Italy
Perhaps a letter in simple english asking them if there are any records from Petralia sottana available at the Diocese or even perhaps in the Diocesan Musuem located in the Archbishops palace (1460) across fromthe cathedral. =Peter=

Petralia Sottana is in the Diocese of Cefalù (PA).

In the church archive of Petralia Sottana there are acts of births, marriages and deaths since the end of XVI century. I have consulted them the last month.

Hi Peter,

I was in Petralia in 1992 - at that time I was looking for church records.....my cousin told me they had been destroyed. She had spoken with the parish priest.

I personally did not ask anyone at the church. Thanx, jack
