How to find great great grandfather's birth record

Post by Squigy »

He was born in Marcianise in the region of Campania, between 1880-1882. His name was Giuseppe Maietta, and I think his father's name was Angelo. What I most want to find out is his mother's name. How would I go about getting these records? I can't mail/e-mail the comune, because I don't speak Italian. Is there any other way to find them?

Hi Squigy,

from the military enlistment for the first World War it seems that Giuseppe was born on October 1880 in Marcianise:

from Ancestry.com:

World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918
about Guseppe Augelo Maietta
Name: Guseppe Augelo Maietta
County: Lawrence
State: Pennsylvania
Birth Date: 24 Oct 1880
Race: White
FHL Roll Number: 1893482
DraftBoard: 1

almost same date of birth on the military enlistment for the Second World War:

U.S. World War II Draft Registration Cards, 1942
about Giuseppa Maietta
Name: Giuseppa Maietta
Birth Date: 25 Oct 1880
Birth Place: Marciamse, Italy
Residence: Lawrence, Pennsylvania
Roll: WW2_2240862

You can search by yourself between the civil registrations for the town of Marcianise going to your nearest Family History Center because I noticed that they microfilmed the Births, Marriages and deaths from 1809 to 1929:

link to find your nearest family history center:

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... et_fhc.asp

link to the civil registrations filmed of the town of Marcianise:

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... +Marcianis++

link to find the town microfilmed:
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library ... t_fhlc.asp

Or, you can choose to write to the proper office of the Comune of Marcianise asking for the "Copia integrale dell'Atto di Nascita" of your ancestor using one of these form letters:

Hope this helps you

Thanks. I have Ancestry.com, but have never seen these World War draft cards. My Family Histor Center reopens tomorrow, so I'll see if I can find his birth records.

Is it okay to e-mail the comune and get the records scanned and sent through e-mail, or do you have to mail them a letter. Also, what would be the fee for these records, and how would I pay for them. I tried my Family History Center but, I live in a small town, and they are volunteers, so I didn't get far (they don't know how to use the microfilm, just the computers).

From my little experience I would advise you to write and mail them a letter, even if, on the forum, I have read of persons who had their documents also after e-mail requests...

The address of the Comune of Marcianise (the proper office for these kind of requestes) is:

Comune di Marcianise
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Via Roma, 1

81025 Marcianise CE

However, this is the e-mail address:

Ufficio Stato Civile - Leva:
Tel.: 0823.635210 - Fax: 0823.635326
E-mail: statocivile@comune.marcianise.ce.it (digit with no spaces)
Laurenza Immacolata - Istruttore Direttivo
Di Fuccia Pasqualina - Istruttore
Apicella Silvio - Istruttore

Also, do you have ay idea what the fee would be, and how I would pay it if I use e-mail?

Not all comunes charge for records, if there is a fee, they will tell you in advance. Any fee would have to be sent snail mail and only Euros are accepted.

How long will I wait for a response if I mail them a letter? Do you think they would reply to an email, and if so, how long would I wait for that? And if I do send a letter, should it be handwritten or can I type it? Thanks.
