Re: A Real Shot in the Dark

That is…. very broad. Unfortunately I think you need relatives of that man to also be looking, and looking now when you’re looking, and that’s a tall order.

I guess you’ve done some DNA, based on the illness? I ask because I was able to use Ancestry records and DNA to figure out relatives, and even ...

Re: Can’t find a marriage record. Gioiosa Marea, probably 1866.

Thanks for finding Salvatore’s birth act. I do have a sort of similar birth act on another branch, where they specifically noted the child was illegitimate, then added a note in the margin that it was reversed later when the parents wed. Here they weren’t so pointed about the legitimacy, so maybe ...

Did I miss a 10-year index? Is there some other way, short of writing to the parish?

Can’t find a marriage record. Gioiosa Marea, probably 1866.

Vincenzo Ferlazzo of Gioiosa Marea.

Salvadore Ferlazzo and Concetta Baudo had at least 8 kids.
Son Giuseppe is my GGGrandfather. Vincenzo is one of his 3 brothers.

Vincenzo was born on March 5, 1845.

Re: State of New York records turnaround?

Unfortunately I can’t find the marriage certificate, which is likely 1866. Seems to be a year that’s missing. The first son Salvatore was born in 1868, although that’s a mostly self-reported date. (Can’t find Salvatore’s birth record, either, but that’s not as big a deal.)

I’m trying to confirm ...

Re: State of New York records turnaround?

It was actually Patchogue (Suffolk County), and I contacted the town clerk and actually received the death certificate from Patchogue in Saturday's mail. Unfortunately, the piece of information I sought, his mother's name, was left blank.

No one here had a response, but FYI for anyone else, a recent Reddit said they are *years* behind.

Re: A birth record from 1874 in 1915?

Do know about the quake (unfortunately the family lost some relatives), but didn't know they were mandated to reproduce records. I have so many other records, including from that same year (1874), that are original. I guess she was just in a stack/location that was damaged. (And I've been lucky so ...

State of New York records turnaround?

Anyone have any idea about the timeframe? I sent a request and a check to Albany about 3 weeks ago. The check still hasn’t been cashed. I’m wondering how long to give them (I’m guessing 6 weeks) before assuming it got lost, and the check should be canceled.

I sent a request to St. Louis for my dad ...

A birth record from 1874 in 1915?

As far as I can tell, this gives no indication of why this wasn’t filed in 1874? I just stumbled across this the other day.

Re: Problem Posting

I got that all the time on my laptop (Chrome). I started having to copy what I wanted to post before posting, knowing it would take multiple attempts.

On my iPad (Safari), I do not have this problem.

Same router/broadband provider, both iOS, so it’s likely to do with the browser for me. I didn’t ...

A birth act surname correction

This is… a correction, he’s saying it’s Lusitano not Lisitano, but I really can’t tell what is what with the dates (was Maria born in May of 1872, then?) and by the way who’s the mom of Maria, does it even say?

Re: Back of photo scrawl

I mean he remained in his 30s over two decades! But good point about his schooling. I didn’t notice that he didn’t sign anything.

Yes, I did see he was a widow when he married Teresa. Wife #1 is unknown (so far).

I was joking about the age thing. My grandmother wasn’t illiterate, just a little ...

Re: Back of photo scrawl

At least I realized that the comment about "after 48 years" on the photo dated 1949 referred to the last time they're saw each other. My great grandfather (who was only two years older than her btw) left Italy in 1901. (At first I thought she was trying to say something about how old she was, which ...
