thank you for the information. I've bookmarked it for reference. However, this person did survive the war. I would just like to find out more about his service. The family must have been a lucky one - two grandfathers served in the Italian army. And both survived.

Thanks for your reply. My husband is first generation American and still visits this region because his grandparents never left it. I know what town to go to in order to get birth and death certificates. We are able to go there personally and request this information.

Records for previously Italian now Croatian region
Where in Italian would records be housed for places that are no longer Italian? My husband's grandparents (both sides) were from Italy at the time. But that region is now Croatia.
Does Italy keep these records?

I am trying to find information on a WWII Italian soldier who would have been Italian prior to WWII. But after WWII, this region became part of Yugoslavia and now Croatia.
