Hey that's my name - Michael Russo. My handle is an anagram.
I really appreciate this explanation. You don't expect civil documents to have a narrative.

What’s the trick to deciphering this stuff?
I’ve looked through the guides on how to decipher Italian cursive, but it isn’t helping. How do you single out each letter? It all looks squashed to me.

Help reading a notation on a marriage record
Could someone please help me read the notation on this birth certificate? I believe the margin notation in the upper left corner gives information on my GGGM’s marriage. I can’t make heads or tails of this old cursive.

Re: Looking for Neapolitan GGM’s Date of Birth
Wow, great catch! I didn’t notice that there were two manifests and that they were crossed out on the first one. After finding my GGM’s birth certificate, I had looked through the Sant’Antimo 1870-1890 index for her as I had no other leads at the time. It’s possible I missed her, but I just checked ...

Looking for Neapolitan GGM’s Date of Birth
I am trying to find my GGMs DOB. Neither her US marriage or death certificates indicate her exact DOB, only her age. I’ve found two passport applications for her. I am fairly certain they are both hers as she returned to Italy for a short time. I’m told that with this information, I can request a ...

Re: Indices for city of Naples
I mean the handwritten, ten-year indexes that are in the back of the registers.

Indices for city of Naples
I understand Naples birth records are not fully digitized, but for those that are, do indices exist? I’ve seen scanned alphabetical indices in the back of some registers that connect the name with the record number. I can’t find them for the 19th century Naples archives I’m interested in, which is ...

Re: Looking for Di Caprio family from Naples
It’s odd I can’t find a NY death certificate for her. Family lore has it that she died during the flu pandemic.
However, I found records from the Catholic Protectory where she left my grandfather Salvatore and his brother Joseph, claiming destitution. One record from 1926 states (correctly) that ...

Looking for Di Caprio family from Naples
I am trying to find any info on my great grandmother from the Naples area, Carmela Di Caprio. I do not know the comune.
Her surname is frequently mispelled, often ridiculously - De Crapino, De Crapia, Decapiro, etc. making searches difficult.
Her NY marriage certificate has her age 20 in Apr 1906 ...

Help with Birth Record translation
I am trying to determine the birth date, but my Italian is poor. Both the first and seventh lines have dates, I assume one is the filing date. The first date looks to be 16 Jan 1883 (sedici Gennaio). The seventh line reads “del di quindici del ______ mese”. I cannot make out that missing word.
The ...

Re: What Naturalization documents are needed if process was left incomplete?
He died in 1918, he’s not on the census. He died 6 months after signing the Declaration of Intent. I’m wondering if there’s anything I need from USCIS.

What Naturalization documents are needed if process was left incomplete?
I have my GGF Declaration of Intent, signed on 26 April 1918, six months before he died from “Spanish" flu. As I understand, he would have had to wait two years to file a Petition for Citizenship (unless he served in the military, which he didn’t). His WW 1 Draft Card from Sep 1918 identifies him as ...
