Re: Translation for "sciente"

See death record number 89 for Gaetano Devoti, with "sciente" after "Casella Fortunato", about 4 lines from the bottom of the first page.

Translation for "sciente"

In reading some hand-written death records for the Piacenza area of northern Italy, mid-1800's, I have come across a word which I have not been able to translate. The word appears to be spelled "sciente" and is sometimes found after the name of the witness.

The location of this word is placed ...

Re: Raffaele Mazzuca of Amantea, Cosenza

My grandfather, Salvatore Lorelli was born in 1886, in Amantea, Italy. Could this be the same person you are looking for?

Re: Raffaele Mazzuca of Amantea, Cosenza

I found a birth record for a Salvatore Lorelli for October 23, 1901. His parents were Antonio Lorelli and Luisa Caruso. It appears that he married Anna Naccarato, though some of the dates appear incorrect. I have records of his ancestors going back to the 1700's, though I have no records of any ...

Re: Provenzano or Perciavalle, in Amantea

Tessa, thank you for looking further into this question. I do not have the original birth act for Vincenzo Provenzano, born in 1833. The Cosenza Archives are having problems and they cannot post the record.

You also suggested that maybe Vincenzo Perciavalle was the person born in 1829 to Giuseppe ...

Re: Provenzano or Perciavalle, in Amantea

Tessa and Pippo, thank you very much for the information. However, I wanted to see if you could help to clarify a few things.

The record #97 officially recognized that the Vincenzo’s father’s name should have been Giuseppe Perciavalle, instead of Giuseppe Provenzano. Was Vincenzo’s mother actually ...

Provenzano or Perciavalle, in Amantea

While researching ancestors online, I found some records which appear to note a name change, from Provenzano to Perciavalle, but I cannot fully translate the several pages.

The first page was from a birth record number 97, of July 18, 1870, in Amantea, Italy, for a Vincenzo Provenzano, and it is ...

Re: Help finding records for Pietro Gatto born 1887

There is a website called "Portale della Storia degli Italiani", and a subsequent page for the "Archivio di Stato di Cosenza", and it has quite a few on-line records, mostly from the period between 1806 through 1866, but also some records after that period. There is a free registration, and I have ...

Re: My Lost Famiy- Pulicicchio and Zaccagnini

You might try the following link, which I have found to be extremely helpful in researching ancestors from the Cosenza area of Calabria:

http://poster.beniculturali.it/poster/action.do

The name "Pulicicchio" has quite a few entries, but you might also check the variation "Policicchio", which has ...

Re: Raffaele Mazzuca of Amantea, Cosenza

My great-grandfather, Raffaele Mazzuca, was born around 1866, in a small village called San Pietro in Amantea, just above the larger town of Amantea, in the province of Cosenza, Calabria. After 1900, he moved down into the town of Amantea, on the main street of what is now called Corso Vittorio ...
