Re: Figlio Pupillo?
Gotcha. Makes sense, and interesting that it's recorded in the death record. Thanks!

Re: Figlio Pupillo?
So I can probably assume that Pasquale was basically his father's dyer apprentice and probably inherited his dyer business?

Re: Anybody else mixed with another ethnicity?
Mongrel here, but grew up tending towards identifying as 'Italian' because I was one of the few people where I grew up with an Italian last name.

Re: Why are Southern Italians darker than Northern Italians?
I've never thought much of coloring stereotypes, considering my mom's dark brown hair and dark brown eyes come from the Swedish/Irish side of the family. And she can darken a surprising amount considering the red-haired English/German side of the family.

Re: Figlio Pupillo?
Whoops, I didn't see the age down there! I think I spent too much time researching the Swedish side of the family, I started to forget my Italian!
And thanks for the help, I appreciate it!

Figlio Pupillo?
So I finally found the death record for my 6x great-grandfather, Saverio Reale, but noticed something weird. Usually this type of record gives the name of the deceased, their parents' names, and the name of their spouse if married/widowed. But for Saverio, after his wife, it adds another person ...

Re: Military Record
Makes sense as Pasquale was in his late 30s, early 40s during the war. Do you know if there are any resources I could read to get a sense of the work he might have done in his Centuria?

Re: Military Record
Thank you! Any idea what the 943 Centuria District of Naples is? Would that be his army unit?

Military Record
During my recent trip to Italy, I stumbled across the Benevento State Archive, and with it my gg-grandfather, Pasquale Ruggiero's, military record for WWI.I've been able to read and translate most of it, but I'm not sure what it all means . In the center portion, describing the military service, I ...

Marriage Notation on Birth Record
I recently returned from a trip to Italy and found several unexpected records, one of which was a different version of my gg-grandfather, Pasquale Ruggiero's birth record that has notations about his birth and death written in the side. The birth record itself looks pretty standard, and the death ...

Re: Handwriting help
Ah darn. And Moiano's publicazioni are not online either, nor were Macchia Valfortore's for 1901 (and I check 1900 just in case - no luck). It is all very annoying, especially since my gg-grandparents kept moving back and forth between Italy and the US.
Oh well, thank you for your help!

Handwriting help
Hi! I've been trying to figure out where my great-great-grandparents married, as there are three possible places (Moiano, Macchia Valfortore, and New York - probably Schenectady). I have a long-standing grudge against New York for not publishing old vital records online, Moiano loves to not have any ...
