A few years ago there was a site which listed the most common surnames in each providence of Italy for the 1800s and earlier, but I can't find it now. Can anyone help me out? I'm aware I can google it, but what's most common now may not be what was most common back then. I'd like something that ...

Even though I can't be 100% sure of it due to my English skills, I think that's the greatest option.
Although "in the air" could mean "in front of yourself," the literal translation of "in the sky" (cielo) is "in the sky." Spitting upwards (towards the sky) guarantees that it will return to you.
