Looking for info on Elio Rigo

Post by Angiebeckett »

I am looking for any information on my grandparents who immigrated to Australia.

Grandfather:
Elio Rigo
19 January 1928 in Venice.
Died: 2 September 2008 in Brisbane Australia.

Siblings: Luginia, Agostino, Emilio and one more brother.

He completed compulsory military service from 20 years to 22 years.

He and on brother was taken by the Germans at 14 and taken to a camp near the Italian and Yugoslavian border to dig trenches. He escaped on new years 1945.

His mother died in 1958.

His dad was held in a concentration camp by the Germans and was sent to work in Germany.

Came to Australia in 25 July 1952 from Genoa.

Married my grandmother in Venice March 1958.

Grandmother:
Marisa Canton
22 May 1939 in Venice.

Parents: Enrico Canton and Elisa Basso
Siblings: Antonio, Vittorio, Aldo, Pietro, adelio.

My main priority thus far has been searching for my grandfathers parents info.

Just keep hitting dead ends after contacting numerous authorities.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Unfortunately, dates are too recent to find records online.
If you are sure they married in Venice and the approximate date, you might write to the Comune di Venezia to request a marriage certificate with parents' names.
You better not say you're doing that for a genealogical research, but for a heredity issue.

Hi Pippo, do most comuni refuse to issue certificates for genealogical purposes?
