I know I've mentioned in the past that I have a large discrepancy in DNA matches between my Maternal (Italian/Sicilian/Greek) and Paternal (Northern/Northwestern/Eastern European) sides on Ancestry. They currently stand at 27,342 Paternal & 672 Maternal.
Then there is the matter of the Ancestry hints -- my Paternal side of the family tree (quite extensive) is loaded with hundreds of hints (too many to go through at the present time) which can include in some cases more than a dozen hints per person, and ALMOST every person on that side of the tree is "hinted". It's crazy.
On my Maternal side, there are none. ZERO. It's as if the family doesn't even exist. The last hints I even had for that side were either a couple of incorrect attributions (same/similar names) or simply another family tree containing my Maternal grandparents (which I traced to a distant half-cousin's tree on my Paternal side).
So, what gives..? Can anyone relate..? This is so beyond frustrating. Try as I might, I can't wrap my head around it all...

Re: Ancestry.com "hints"
I already took that into consideration, except these are not small families. Isolated, perhaps, but not small...

Re: Ancestry.com "hints"
I FINALLY received a recent trio of Ancestry "hints" on my maternal side (as opposed to literally hundreds in the same time period since my last post on this thread for my paternal side). They led me to another Ancestry tree to which I had a MRCA (and forebears) in common as well as both the home commune and many common surnames. Strangely the tree owner and I share no DNA (although it's likely to be under the threshold for Ancestry) since the MRCA is many gens back (1700's). I sent him a message. Based on surnames in his tree, he most likely still resides in the home commune of Valmontone. It was relieving to know that there is SOME glimmer of hope on the horizon...

Re: Ancestry.com "hints"
You're experiencing significant challenges in your family tree research on Ancestry, particularly with the large discrepancy in DNA matches (27,342 on your Paternal side versus 672 on your Maternal side) and the lack of hints for your Maternal lineage. This disparity may stem from factors such as a larger and more diverse Paternal family network, differing trends in DNA testing popularity, and possible migration patterns affecting your Maternal side. Your extensive Paternal tree yields many hints, while the smaller Maternal tree has few or none, often leading to incorrect attributions due to common names. To address this, consider engaging with genealogy communities focused on your Maternal ancestry, reassessing your Maternal tree for gaps, reaching out to distant relatives, exploring alternate records, and using other genealogy platforms. Persistence and exploration may eventually lead to valuable discoveries.
