Hello G
So why does it translate to "eldest" son in this record? We have always translated "figlio maggiore" to mean "who has reached the age of maturity" ? e.g. https://www.italiangenealogy.com/forum/ ... re#p260585
I'm interested to know what the difference is. I know that google translates "figlio maggiore" to be "eldest son" but it often gets things wrong.
Edit to Add: I wrote "adult son" because I thought it meant the same thing as "reached the age of maturity".

Thank you. I understand. I should've rechecked his age this morning when I read your post. For some reason I remembered his age being 26 not 22. (Juggling too many records at the moment.) I'll see what I can find out about the age of maturity in Puglia in that time frame.mmogno wrote: 26 Sep 2025, 23:53 @AngelaGrace56
