Translation of Military Document POW

Hi all,

Can someone please help me with this section of the document. I believe he was captured in Tobruk by the British but cannot really read each line.

Drafted and enrolled in the 142nd Intantry Regiment on May 30th, 1940.
Disembarked in Tobruk on June 6th, 1940.
Captured and taken prisoner by the English on January 22nd, 1941.
Repatriation from captivity on March 23rd, 1946.
Given a 60 days licence on March 23rd, 1946.
Unlimnited military leave on May 23rd, 1946.

I'm just adding my 2 cents here. I’m reading the word “recalled” there so what I’m understanding is that on 30 May 1940 “he was “recalled" to the army and went etc” (WW2)

Penso anch'io che tu abbia ragione. Purtroppo il documento fornito è incompleto e così non si può sapere la storia precedente al 30 Maggio. Mi pare impossibile che un militare sia arruolato il 30 Maggio e il 4 Giugno sia già in zona di guerra in Africa, senza alcun addestramento.
Se venisse postato il Ruolo Matricolare completo, si potrebbero sapere nome, luogo e data di nascita, nomi dei genitori e con questi dati si potrebbe anche cercare qualcosa sulla prigionia.

Here is the entire file with his POW information. He got recalled and then sent to the front line where he was captured by the british and went to Camp 310 which i believe was in Suez, Egypt for 5 years until the war ended. A very interesting story. Unfortunately his other brothers were not so lucky.
With this sheet i was lucky it came with all the POW information. I will shortly post another document from his brother who was a POW but with no more informaiton. If anyone could please help me finding out his informaiton tha would be amazing.

Here is his brothers sheet showing he was a POW in 1917 before being released (he was very sick when they released him) and he passed away in a military hospital the very next day.
Angela you found some information for me on previous posts abut Antonino and Filippo.
I did not have these their sheets which shows Antonino was a POW. There is no more informaiton about where he was held though.
Also i used that italian honors site to look them up and found that an Antonino Letizia from Naso was given certain honors during his service in WW1 which matches but how do i know that its the exact same person when there is no extra details on the website? It says an Antonino Letizia was awarded the Commander of the Order of Merit and also the Officer and Knights of the Order of Merit.

Where did you read that he was sent to POW Camp 310 for the remainder of the war? My understanding is that Camp 310 was a holding camp, so he would have only been there for a short while along with his fellow captives until they were "processed" and then sent to various other POW Camps. I remember sending you some information about the Red Cross in another topic. You could make enquiries there or the Archivio Apostolico Vaticano (I think that's what it's called. I'll recheck. I don't have the address though.)

Generally you won't get any "detail" about a POW's captivity on their Military Record.

Hi Angela,
On the document Giuseppe Letizia, there is a sheet called Casualties at the bottom which shows his place of Internment at POW Camp 310 on 6/6/42. I just assumed he spent his whole time there. It does say on the document above he was imprisoned by the British at Block 1 Sud Africa? Maybe that is where he went after Camp 310?

It might have been Zonderwater which was a huge camp. A lot from the Battle of Bardia ended up there and were then much later sent to the Uk. I read somewhere that he was sent to Camp 1 and also Block 1 which you have said. There was another Camp too starting with K. I have limited knowledge about all this though - only from personal experience with someone nearest and dearest to me.

This is interesting:

On the form from the Ministry of Defence it says:

"The soldier in question, previously reported missing, was repatriated on 24 March 1946, returning from Camp No 1 in South Africa."

I'll see if I can confirm whether Camp 1 was Zonderwater.

Edit to Add: Zonderwater Camp didn't have a number.

Yes, I do remember finding that information for you. I'm glad your saw it Generally, information regarding medals etc would be included on the military record. This information would likely be recorded on the second page under "Campagne, Azioni di Merito" or something similar. I'm not sure what the procedure was though if the soldier was deceased already. Can you post the rest of the military record. I'll bring up the previous thread.
