I am searching for the parents of my great great grandfather Agostino Cappuccio who was born in Grottaminarda, Avellino in 1894. He came to New York in 1909 on the Oceania out of the port of Napoli with four younger siblings Mariano, Rosario, Eugenio, and Maria. I am aware that I probably need to write to the local goverment offices or churches-of which there are 3 so I'm wondering if there are any better starting points.

Re: Cappuccio of Grottaminarda, Avellino
You can obtain an estratto di nascita (long form) birth certificate for your Agostino Capopuccio from the Grottaminarda Ufficio di Stato Civile (civil registry office.
Go to http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... tters.html for form letters in Italian and mail the request to the address located under MUNICIPIO at www.tuttitalia.it/campania/50-grottaminarda There is no charge for requesting one or more documents. =Peter=

Hi Victoria,
From the 1909 arrival manifest for Agostino and his siblings you can see they were travelling with their mother Carmina De Prisco and were joining their father Francesco Cappuccio

Hi Laura!
Great catch
since they're 'step-children' on the manifest, father Francesco should be correct

Re: Verification
if all of these documents are accurate that would present this scenario:
Francesco Cappuccio(Father) Born 1864

Margherita Cappuccio-b1888 imm. 1905 with Francesco went to live with
aunt.
Pasqualina Cappuccio-b1890 imm. Boston Pass. List
Felice "felix" Cappuccio-b1893 imm. Boston Pass. List

Mariano Cappuccio-b1895 imm. 1909 Oceania

Eugenio Cappuccio-b1901 imm. 1909 Oceania not on 1910 census
John Cappuccio-b1901. 1910 cenus no imm. record?
Margaret Cappuccio-b1906. 1910 cenus no imm. record only biolog. child.
Maria Cappuccio-b1907 imm. 1909 Oceania not on 1910 census
could this be a simple name swap? or something such as the children living elsewhere I just need help on verifying this bunch.

I am looking for Cappuccio too. Two brothers who left Grottaminarda to go to Argentina. Michele and Rocco. Maybe they are related, my mother-in-law's mother was Giuseppina Cappuccio sister of Michele and Rocco. Giuseppina didn't leave italy she was there with, I believe two other sisters, Maria but don't know the name of the other onevcappuc wrote:I am searching for the parents of my great great grandfather Agostino Cappuccio who was born in Grottaminarda, Avellino in 1894. Re: Cappuccio of Grottaminarda, Avellino
in my findings my great great grandfather Frank and his son Agostino came from Grottaminarda, Italy to New York. Some of the family joined his brother Salvatore (spelling?) in Boston. I dont have any indication they were immediately related to anyone who left for Argentina, although its possible your Giuseppina is related...I dont know the history for Agostino's birth mother or if there were other siblings who stayed in Italy. I have a tree on Ancestry.com
