Since they were called Vellanese they probably are from, Vellano Italy in Tuscany.
But the town Vellano changed it’s name to Pescia in 1928, (info below on that from a moderator) Close to Bologna where there are many Carbone’s.
I happen to work with a manufacturer in Bologna, Italy (espresso machines) and he tells me Carbone is commonly found there.
So I googled Carbone in Pescia italy and came up with a bunch of businesses with the name Carbone and also for the surrounding area town Pistoia, Prato etc.
Info is below and here is info from a moderator regarding the town name change:
“The Vellano municipality exist no more, because from 1928 vellano is an hamleth of Pescia town .. if you know the ancestor's birthdate of birthyear you can write to:
statocivile @ comune.pescia.pt.it ( no spaces)
or anagrafe @ comune.pescia.pt.it ( no spaces)
and ask the birthact of Pietro and also marriage act/italian citizenship useâ€

Re: A place called Vellanase?
There are two potential candidates that struck a chord. One is Villanova Canavese (Torino)and the other Villenueve (Aosta) both in the Piemonte region. =Peter=
