Finding a Town in Prussia
Finding a Town in Prussia
Hello!
I am trying to locate a town in the historical province of Posen. My searches online and in the Meyers Gazetteer return no conclusive results.
Please see the ship manifest for Henriette Malon, line #77 (towards top of the page). The last place of residence appears to read as "Slangendorff, Po". I assume "Po" is the abbreviation for Posen, but I cannot find anything about the town. This leads me to believe I am reading the name incorrectly, or it was recorded incorrectly on the manifest.
If anyone has any conclusions about what / where Slangendorff, Po might be, I'd love to hear your suggestions!
Many thanks!

Ha! You guys do German language, too? My goodness - the "wicked web" you (all) weave!
I have virtually nothing on one of my close friend's more "obscure" German ancestors, but what I do (reasonably) know is that they came over on the Saxony, I believe, in 1869:
Wilhelmina Renkel, age 59
Hermann Renkel. age 17
[note: line numbers are obscured, so look to 5th and 4th last name entries from the bottom.]
Can anyone tell me what "zieglershuhn" means? Google Translate is of no help here. Is there any other info in this record that anyone can offer me here?
Thanks in advance.
Mark

Re: Finding a Town in Prussia
According to the column heading - this would be their place of birth and residence.
However, I am not able to locate a city, town, district, or region in Prussia with that name

Hi, T-
I wasn't able to find anything either. I figured I was missing something in the translation, meaning this was an "old " reference that's somehow no longer utilized in this day and age. Go figure.
Anyway, thanks for looking. Oh, and good to hear from you again!

Maybe the town was Ziegelhausen (spelled as Zieglershausen on some passenger lists) and was misunderstood and misspelled on the passenger list.

Hi, Erudita-
Maybe a possibility here - nice work. I will look into this as time permits.
