Would someone please translate this record. It is record #700. Writing is very hard for me to read and understand. Thanks so much.

Here’s what I can decipher-
Date June 18, 1731
Banns on the 3rd, 9th, and 17th of June resulted in no impediments to the marriage.
Groom: Gaspare d’oddio, widower of the deceased ?, legitimate and natural son of deceased Antonino and living Anna d’oddio. Formerly living in ? But currently of this town.
Bride: Mattia Gristina, never before married, daughter of Andrea and Anna, then it says formerly of this town. Neither Andrea or Anna are deceased though, so I’m confused. Possibly this family originated in another town?
Hopefully someone else will help clarify things.
Erudita
I didn’t see his former marriage in the Corleone indices.

Thanks so much, Erudita. I think they are the parents of Caterina Oddo. You previously translated a marriage record for her and Giovanni Palazzo. Do you think they are the same?

@mmogno
Grazie for the corrections. I did see the first name Elena in the record. I just thought it was odd that her surname wasn’t given, but then I looked at some death indices in Corleone. The women with the first name Elena are in the indices and death records with the surnames of their husbands. I checked the Corleone indices from 1703 until 1731, when Gaspare remarried, and didn’t find a death record for this Elena there.
As to the town of Contessa Entellina, I couldn’t find its former Latin name. Happy you knew that information but, unfortunately, I don’t see church records online for that town.
Grazie ancora.

I think that Mattia Gristina could be the mother of Caterina Oddo. Unfortunately, I tried to find Caterina’s baptism record to confirm this, but haven’t found it. In Corleone, I only found sons born to Gaspare and Mattia. Even though they married in June 1731, the sons were born in the 1750s. So I checked in Bisacquino too, but had no luck there. That was before mmogno edited my translation of their 1731 marriage record indicating that Gaspare had previously lived in Contessa Entellina. Unfortunately, no church records online for that town.
As to the sons I found-
(This one I’m not sure about, as the mother’s first name in the record is Nunzia (Gristina) and not Mattia, but it could be an error). Giovanni d’Oddo. March 14, 1751, folio 71, father Gaspare, image 122 of 687). This infant was in imminent danger of dying and baptized by the midwife. Last record on the right.
Gaetano Agostino Francesco d’Oddo, Aug 28, 1752, image 158 of 687. Parents Gaspare and Mattia d’Oddo (Gristina).4th down on the left
Calogero Mariano Giuseppe of Gaspare and Mattia d’Oddo and Gristina. Folio 89, image 336 of 687. July 26, 1756.
