Re: Immigration to South America
jcavallo, I had a similar situation with my family. Here are my suggestions: 1.- Try Ellis Island's website www.ellisisland.org. Even though this was the main hub for Italians to the US, a lot of of the passangers had final destinations in South America. I found my great great grand uncle's record a...

Re: Where to apply if residing in the US but not a US Citize
Yes, that is what I am reading. As you said I have to get certified ones with apostilles. My family is still missing some birth certificates so I am in no rush. I have plenty of time and patience to learn and read about the process.
Thanks again for all your help!

Re: Where to apply if residing in the US but not a US Citize
Understood. Thanks mler!!
In that case I will have to tell my family to make copies of all the stuff they have and send it to me.
In the mean time I will start reading on the application process for the Miami consulate. Any suggestions on material to read?
Thanks

Re: Where to apply if residing in the US but not a US Citize
Thanks for the help. I think the only people that would really know are the consulates itself. The miami consulate has jurisdiction in the state I live. I will contact them and let you all know.
Just of out curiosity, how is the wait at the Miami consulate??

Re: Verification of Birth Certificates
Ok. that is definitely worth a try. I don't speak Italian, but I have seen the site that was previously mentioned in this thread so that I can request it in Italian.
How responsive is the comune?
I am assuming that will have a cost. How much would that be?
Is email ok?
Thanks,
-Daniel

Re: Verification of Birth Certificates
Excellent! I appreciate the reply. I'm still going to the FHC to try to confirm my great great grandfather's birth location. If it matches what I just found on his brother, then I can go ahead a request the birth certicates I need. Who do you people recommend the most for that? www.mytalianfamily.co...

Re: Verification of Birth Certificates
Out of curiosity I checked Ellis Island's website. I was happy that I did find a match. Even though my family never resided in the U.S. They did travel and were transit passengers in New York! I found information on my great great grandfather's younger brother. He traveled 3 times :) Here is informa...

Re: Verification of Birth Certificates
My local FHC in Atlanta is nearby. I will go visit it this upcoming week.
I forgot to mention that the record the FHC has on microfilm is up to 1865.
How can I look at records of people between 1865 and maybe 1920?
Thanks.

Re: Verification of Birth Certificates
they didn't emigrate to the USA.
They went to Paraguay. My uncle recently found a record of a ticket and they came to Paraguay in 1919, not sure if that is the first visit.
Ok, I don't speak Italian I may have to ask someone I know to write it for me.
Thanks!!

Re: Verification of Birth Certificates
Great! Thanks for the reply. The first link will be of great use. I will contact the FHC and see if they can help me. The second link seems to be taking me to a "not found" page. I am going to write an email to Naples as well. I am assuming English is not a problem for them. Yes, from what...
