Re: Vincent Mistretta -- New Orleans/Texas

Hi Suanj, For the past year, I have been searching for my family's documents. I have found countless records that you helped lead me to. There is only one document that I have not been able to find, the marriage certificate of Vincent Mistretta and Mary Greco. In one of your responses to this thread...

Pre-1906 and 1912 questions

Hello all, I am trying to apply for dual citizenship via GGF-GM-F(born 1949)-me. I have obtained my GGF's BC from Italy and have letters of "no record of naturalization" from the USCIS and his Alien-file from the NARA. However, my GGF came over as a young boy (he was about 5) with his fath...

Re: Pre-1906 and 1912 law questions

I thought there are no records of naturalization pre-1906 at the federal level. I thought that before that time, immigrants had to petition for naturalization through local (county?) courts. In my case, it would be Bryan, Tx (Brazos county)-- I thought he lived in those other cities I mentioned at t...

Re: Pre-1906 and 1912 law questions

To make matters worse -- I just contacted the county clerk in Bryan, TX (Brazos county)and they said that they don't have any sort of records of residents who applied for citizenship through the county courts in the late 1800's/early 1900's. They told me to "contact homeland security because th...

Pre-1906 and 1912 law questions

Hello all, I am trying to apply for dual citizenship via GGF-GM-F(born 1950)-me. I have obtained my GGF's BC from Italy and have letters of "no record of naturalization" from the USCIS and his A-file from the NARA. However, my GGF came over as a young boy (he was about 5) with his father a...

Re: Vincent Mistretta -- New Orleans/Texas

Hi Suanj! Where would we all be without you? Sorry for the late response but I've been looking into all of the information you provided and it seems like you are 100% correct. It's going to make getting documents difficult with all the name and date changes :( but we will see. I had one last questio...

Re: Vincent Mistretta -- New Orleans/Texas

Thank you Suanj! I would never have been able to find these records because of all the misspellings! Thank you again so much. If I could solicit you a bit further, would you happen to know where I can find passenger lists for immigrants coming from Palermo into the port of New Orleans in the early 1...

Re: Vincent Mistretta -- New Orleans/Texas

Hi Tessa78 -- thank you for this document and for looking for this for me. But based on the info I have, I don't think this is the right Vincent Mistretta. We know that he was born in Mistretta April 17, 1890 so it seems this Vincent Mistretta is too old to be correct. But I will double-check the da...

Re: Sicilian Families in New Orleans

I am also interested in this topic as many of my Sicilian ancestors immigrated to New Orleans or immigrated to NY then moved to New Orleans. My family surnames are Tomasino, Greco and Mistretta. However, around the early to mid 1900's they all moved to Texas. Please let me know if you can find New O...

Vincent Mistretta -- New Orleans/Texas

Hello, I am searching for my GGF Vincent (Vincenzo) Mistretta. Specifically, I am looking for passenger list records. I haven't been very successful finding any records of him on my own other than a WWI draft card. He came over as a boy -- maybe 12? With his aunt Joesphine Mistretta. Any help findin...

Hello again to all, I am still completely confused about getting naturalization records. I've looked on the NARA site and also the USCIS site and do not know at all what i am supposed to be looking for, how do i make a request for "official" documentation regarding an ancestor's naturaliza...

Re: Mistretta family

Laura, I am pretty sure this is him. But he may have lied about it or misunderstood the question because i know he couldn't read or write so this document is probably him, but he didn't write it down himself. I'm still going to check into it and see. I just don't understand at all how to obtain natu...

Re: Mistretta family

Pink67,

Thank you for this document! Sheesh, out of 4 great grandparents on father's side, it's looking like all 4 were naturalized. What unfortunate luck I have!
