Re: Risi and Fusco families

Hello all My great-gradfather was Erasmo Giannandrea from Belmonte Castello. His second wife who he married in Newcastle was Maria Grazia Risi. He was in his fifties, and she was 20 (probably younger in reality). Maria Grazia according to census entries was daughter of Lorenzo and Gertrude. She is l...

Bracciale and Contadine

Dear all I understand that Bracciale means farm labourer whereas Contadine means peasant farmer. However, please could someone explain what the difference is? It comes up on a death certficate that one generation was bracciale and the next was contadine. Is it a question of land ownership? Also, if ...

Itinerant musicians of the late nineteenth century

Thanks

Neither appear to be actual places. Would anyone be able to suggest a reasonable reading of this. I have been scou...

Re: Giannandrea in Belmonte Castello

Thank you very much for the advice Tessa. I'll start with the Family History Center in London, and see where that leads me. They seem to have the key dates covered. And thanks also Italy searcher for pointing me to the photos of Belmonte Castello. I haven't seen the town but hoping to visit next mon...

Giannandrea in Belmonte Castello

Dear all I'm looking for information about my great-grandfather Erasmo Giannandrea who emigrated to the UK from Belmonte Castello, near Casino, probably around 1880. He was born in 1858 or 1859, married Domenica Coppola in 1883 in Tynemouth. Domenica died in 1912, and Erasmo (then over 50 years old)...
