Take a guess at name in immigration record? from Villalba

Post by lolauren »

http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0237

Line 237
Ellisisland says "Calogera Panspanto"

but... Panspanto doesn't appear to be a true surname...

Anything else that word can be?

Panssanto?

PANEPINTO appears to be the correct spelling and since CALOGERO is the first name and normally found in Sicily the Villalba town in the Province of Catanissetta, Sicily is the town of origin. There is another town also called Villalba but that town is located in the Province of Roma in the Lazio region of Italy and is not likely the town of origin you seek ..but I could be wrong.

Go to www.paginebianche.it and put in Panepinto inthe first line and put in the word VILLALBA in the second line and then click CERCA. for all 16 Panepinto currently living there. There are two Calogero also listed.

If you wish to write to any of them please let us know so that we can furnish you with italian language form letters for potential relatives to send them. =Peter=

Oh... that could be it! That is, at least, a true surname that exists in Villalba, Sicily :) Thanks for the suggestion.

The Villalba for this family IS in the Province of Catanissetta one.... (confirmed since my grandma told me so! also "we're NOT ITALIANS!" ;))

Walston is in Punxsutawney, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania. Again, I could only figure that out since I know where her husband was living at the time (and my grandma told me ;))

I'm assuming the first name is Calogera, since it's a woman...

I'm going to go thru the microfilms for this family next and then eventually I'll contact people in Italy. Thank you for the site.

So happy your home free. If you see the LDS microfilms you might wish to take along a book Discovering your Italian Ancestiors by Lynn Nelson which is a companionbook for the films. =Peter=

Hi Lolauren

Good luck with your research. My husband's grandfather was from Villalba and we had the chance to visit the town several years ago. Microfilm coverage is good. I have some photos of Villalba if you are interested send me your email address in a PM.
