Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

How do you find immigration records to the U.S. of Italian ancestors, i.e. web sites, etc.? Separately, I'm looking for recommendations on locating relatives in Italy (Russo, Mondi & Domenica in or around Cosenzo Italy. Based on a Cook County, Chicago, IL, death certificate dated Feb. 2, 1937, I know my great grandmother on my grandma's side, Maria Russo Mondi (husband Charles Mondi) was born in the Province of Cosenzo in approx. 1859 & her parents names were Charles Russo & her mom's maiden name was Domenica. I am also looking for relatives (Falotico & Ulie) in or around the town of Laurenzana, Italy. Based on a Laurenzana birth certificate of Maria Angela Falotico was born Oct. 17, 1856, I know where my great grandmother on my grandpa's side was born. Maria married my great grandfather, Rocco Vincent Ulie (unclear if this last name is an accurate spelling. Another spelling proposed was Yula). Any suggestions in going about finding these relatives in Italy? Also, anyone have experience when writing to the Italian authorities on whether it is best to request information from the town, province or region to obtain vital records? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

before of to write in civil records office of Laurenzana, I believe that is better that you try by Mormon's microfilms, and by yourself the exact date of your ancestors:
Topic Italy, Potenza, Laurenzana - Civil registration

Titles Registri dello stato civile, 1809-1910 Laurenzana (Potenza). Ufficio dello stato civile
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... umns=*,0,0
and so having precise data you can request the certificates in Laurenzana
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Strada Statale 92 - Km 38,600
85014 Laurenzana (PZ)
Italy
email: comunelaurenzana @ rete.basilicata.it ( NO SPACES)

I believe that the Maria Russo husband was no Charles, but Joseph, because I found a death record in 1906 abt a:

MONTI, JOSPEH 1906-09-13 COOK COUNTY 67 YR U 00018874 COOK

So born abt in 1857, IF if the Maria husband... I cannot find the 1900 census, as a well the WWI draft registration card of James Vincent Mondi; maybe in this record could be the birth town...

2 death records:
