Fortunata Ferranini

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Fortunata Ferranini

Post by fasavarese »

I am trying to find out information on my grandmother, her name was Fortunata Ferranini when she arrived in 1913. She was born February 1888. She married soon after her arrival to Ciro Savarese, I am also trying to find out information on him, he died prior to 1920, however they did have two children Lucy and Thomas. In the 1920 census she is listed as a widow. Would appreciate any help and or assistance.

Hello!
Do you have their marriage record?
It should list their parents' names.

I wish I did, trying to track down my father's birth or baptism certificate as it should give me an idea as to his father's age and I can work backward from there. Thanks.

Wow where did you get this info so quickly I have been trying for days

I'm glad we could find something.
I've ordered several records from the NYC Archives.
They're very nice folks to deal with.

Could this be your grandmother's ship manifest?

SS Principe di Piemonte, Janurary 17, 1913 arrival

Fortunato Ferranini, Age 24, dressmaker, single
from Naples, leaves behind an Uncle Ciro Gargiulo

Going to her father Raffaele, at 199 Mulberry St., New York.

Traveling with a sister, Elvira (sp?), age 18, also a dressmaker and
a cousin, Gaetano Gargiulo, a mechanic

Wow, I had found the ship information but was unable to read any of the other informaiton it was not clear. I joined Ancestry.com last week for 3 months so I could do research, knew about her sister but did not know that she was meeting her father or the address, that is great. Thank you so much. I have sent an email to the website to let them know that I am available for data input,

Thanks again for all your help would never have gotte this far without you.
