Translating Castelbuono Sicily Death Record

I don't remember seeing a searchable index for those records, but after your message I found the index at the Italian Genealogical Group.

Do you know why a NY death would be recorded in Castelbuono, Sicily? Was it for estate purposes? I have no clue.

Unfortunately, while in Sicily I was told finding a Will is difficult, but perhaps the death document I'm trying to translate has a lead to which notary and where the notary was located. Nicolo may have had a house in nearby Geraci, not sure.

The family may have sent a copy of his death record to the comune for rec ording.

A good part of my family had migrated to Tunisia and I just sent to the comune the death records and children's records for recording there after being stamped by the Italian Embassy in Tunisia.

It is nice that it was recorded in his home comune.

Robin, the priest, Vincenzo Cusimano, was merely presenting the document he received at the Church to the civil authorities. He probably recorded it in the Church records as well.

It seems, even when it is an official or a priest, they usually identify that person as son or daughter of. You see this on all or most all Italian records. Birth, Death, etc.

You mentioned looking for a will. There are notary records, if they exist, that can be searched. I am sure someone here on the forum more familiar with this could answer any questions you may have.

I got a copy of the Death Certificate from the New York City municipal archives, and the handwritten Italian registry does appear to be a copy of the US death certificate.
