Vito Rocco Lacasella

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Vito Rocco Lacasella

Post by luclor97 »

My ancestor Vito Rocco Lacasella emigrated in USA maybe before 1910... He was born the 23 february 1890 in Canneto, province of Bari, south Italy.
I'm not able to find his first travel...

Another relative of mine also emigratet in USA...
His name was Giuseppe Rago birn i Mola di Bari the 1-1-1899. He was son of Natale Rago and Antonia Conenna.

A son of their, Rago Rocco, around the 50's tried to come in USA but he was stopped by the police and rejected...
Should be possible to find something about this?

I hope that some good soul could give me a help!

Thanks

Hi ,

Welcome back. This is a possible record, but the actual manifest is misfiled o Ellis Island. Perhaps someone can pull it up on Ancestry.

I already know these web sites.

I asked in the forum an help to someone more expert than me.

For example, I tried to see the ship manifest of a 1908 travel but it opens a wrong page...

I believe this is what you are looking for:

May 15, 1909 Manifest Page 1

May 15, 1909 Manifest Page 2

Vito (aged 17) and his cousin Francesco (aged 22) are travelling together, lines # 8 and 9. Vito left behind his father, Pasquale; Francesco left behind a wife.

For EllisIsland.com, you only need to create a free account and then you will be able to search and open pages. Keep in mind however that this site has manifests only for persons who entred the US at Ellis Island. Many tens of thousands (millions? I don't know) entered through other ports such as Boston and New Orleans and also at border crossings from Canada.

The Ancestry.com site does require payment, but they do offer a "free" trial - two weeks, I think.

The EllisIsland index is clearly corrupt; the sailing date at the top of the manifest is 15 November 1907. I hope the voyage didn't last 11 months!

The only manifest I found which seems to be your ancestor is the one I posted in my earlier message.

Hmmm... Perhaps my eyes decieve me, but it appears that Vito and cousin Francesco made a second crossing in October, 1909? See lines 13 and 14:

Page 1

Page 2

[edit]

No, actually, this is a different Vito and Francesco; these are brothers? Vito has a different father and Francesco a different wife. Otherwise, the similarities are sooo close...

Ok johnnyonthespot,
thanks for your help.

In Ellis I. web site it's impossible to open this page...
(journey 13 Oct, 1908...)

Maybe in Ellis the definition of the image is higher...
