I have scanned this document because of the surname. I have not been able to glean anything familiar from it (the poor quality doesn't help). I am simply trying to determine if it has any significance for my family tree. I can e-mail an attachment if necessary. I would also be willing to try to re-scan it.

hi, the birthact is abt a foundling, that the officer give the name of Tito MARTIRE in the 8 jan 1883 in ... ( name town illegible); the child was only some hours old when a woman, Maria Ciglione late Giovanni, found it near door of own home; it are a list abt what was with child: bonnet, bandage, nappy etc...
Tito MARTIRE married the 19 june 1908 at CIPRO Giuliana(the first name no much readable)

It is possible to determine the origin of the surname Martire? In other words, why that name was used. Was it possible the officer's name was Martire? Obviously, I am only guessing. Is there a process for handling this situation?

No, Martire is a fantasy surname given from officer ... maybe he read a name on the calendar ( the feast of Saint Titus martyr is the 26 jan.. the child was born the 18 jan, maybe the officer searched the name and the surname on the calendar...) however it is a fantasy surname...

Thank you. The reason I asked was because one of my ancestors names went from Mattaro/Martora to Martire in U.S. I was wondering about a possible connection.
