Gondolfo Cristodaro

Gondolfo cristodaro was my great grandfather. He was born 7 apr 1883 in Polizzi Generosa. My Grandmother says that growing up he used to talk about being in the cavalry. I am wondering how I would go about finding any information on that.

You might want to write to Italy for his Conscription Records.

Go to www.angelfire.com/ok3/...ello2.html and scroll all the way down to the last page under Conscription Records and see what the the state archives records contain. The form letter in Italian is also provided there.

You might wish to send an e-mail to the Archivio di Stato in Palermo to the attention of the Director Claudio Torrisi at AS-PA@Beniculturali.it and make your request that way with the same information you have to provide in a form letter that Tessa directed you to use. =Peter=

I have heard that conscription records can be difficult to obtain. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Peter is right!
you must ask the photocopy of RUOLO MATRICOLARE(=Conscription Records) of your ancestor; you must pay it before that the Archive will send you... they will reply to you saying abt the payment modalities etc....
