I wrote the other day in regards to my grandfathers family. My grandfather was Antonio DeLapa, looks to be originally spelled Dell'Apa.All I have found or should I say....people here have found...lol...is information on his brother Paulo DeLapa who came to the United States slightly shy of a year earlier. I have a 1910 census, 1920 census and war registration. He was born either Oct. 28, 1889 or Oct. 29, 1888. We have 2 records that have conflicting info. Looks like someone made an error. From the 1910 census it shows him coming to the US in 1908. He was from a small town called Gagliano, Catanzaro Italy. He was born to Francesco Dell'Apa and Caterina Folino or Folina.
I have checked all manifest, naturalization records, etc. Any other suggestions? I would love the help. I did find a family with the same spelling of Dell'Apa in the same town while doing a Google search and thought my only other option would be to write in hopes they may have some information and be possible relatives, since this is a town of only 500 families.
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. My father along with his 4 sisters have now passed and we do not have anyone that knows any information because my grandfather refused to speak of his past.
Thanks in advance to all who may respond!!!

Tracey,
You might also consider writing to the Anagrafe Office regarding the current populace. This is NOT to ask about deceased relatives, but rather living family members. Worth a try.

Tracey,
Regarding the Ellis Island records, have you tried using the SteveMorse site to search? When I typed in De Lapa (with a space between the two words), an Antonio De Lapa came up. He was from Catanzaro, age 14, arrived May 6, 1903, on the S.S. Konigin Luise. Those early manifests do not furnish a lot of information. If this is your Antonio, perhaps he left at an early age to avoid the Italian military and kept quiet about it. Here is the steve morse site. I used the white form and only typed in the surname.
