Lauletta - Please help!

Post by lowlybworm »

I have recently began researching my background with the goal of obtaining dual Italian citizenship. I thought I had it made with my dad's maternal grandfather. I already have the majority of the original documents. The only problem is the 1948 rule. My dad was born in 1944, so the maternal side won't work. Now I am trying to research my dad's paternal side. The problem is, my grandfather and all the older relatives are dead, so I don't have much to go on. Here is what I have.
Dad - John Francis Lauletta, born 1944 and still alive
Grandfather - Frank (Francis) John Lauletta, born 7/7/13 and died 12/4/99. His ssn is 053-03-6382. He had a sister named Rosalie. I have found his military record and some census records. Where it gets confusing is that he lived with a nanny. I'm pretty sure her name was Ms. Elliott. I found a census record that claims him and Rosalie as adopted. I know they weren't adopted by her, they were just taken care of by her. I suspect it was just confusion on her part as to how to list them for the census.
Great-grandparents - John Francis Lauletta and Isabella. I don't have much to go on them. I believe they lived in Philadelphia. I'm trying to find out who their parents were and if they were from Italy.
Please help if you can!

I made a huge breakthrough today that hasn't solved the Lauletta mystery, but it has allowed me to find a set of Italian great-great grandparents. The wife of of John Francis Lauletta of Philadelphia's maiden name was Guida. My grandmother confirmed that she had some siblings name Frank, Stella, and Dolly. I found an Isabel Guida of Philadelphia that fits this profile. The census lists that both her parents were from Italy.

I came up with Nicola Lauletta as a possible father of John F Lauletta too. I need to investigate that possiblity more.

Thanks for all the help and keep it coming! This is so exciting. :D

My grandmother also confirmed that my grandfather's parents had a son that died very young before him with the same name, so vj, that death record is the same family... especially now that I know Isabel's maiden name.

How likely is it that Nicola Lauletta is my great great grandfather?

And my grandmother kept insisting that there is some sort of French heritage or connection. Maybe it is just the fact that they lived in France at some point.
