D'Errico Family in Rodi Garganico(?), Foggia, Puglia

Post by ericderrico »

Hey everyone,

I've been doing some family research I could use any help on. I'm also interested in the Italian Citizenship as well as genealogy so it's fueling the fire of my research quite a bit!

Anyway, my Great Granfather Pasquale D'Errico came from Foggia, Italy and was born 16 June 1891. I'm trying to find information on his parents, and their families if possible. Supposedly, his parents were Michele Vincent (Vincenzo?) D'Errico and Antonia Maria Daduluia (not sure of the spelling). Both are buried in Holy Name Cemetery in Hoboken, New Jersey. Michele was born 1861 and died February 1944, Antonia born 1865 died January 1938. Supposedly they (he) came from Rodi Garganico, Foggia. I'm looking for any information someone may have on D'Errico's in Rodi or even Foggia, particulalry these guys.

I can trace my family well in America, I just have absolutely NOTHING from Italy!

My D'errico family is from Rodi Garganico. I could try to help you although I haven't had a lot of luck myself. Do you know of any other family names. I visited Rodi earlier this year. My grandfather's paternal grandmother was Antonia D'Errico and her father was Guiseppe D'Errico.

I have learned a bit more about the family. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe I've located my Great Grandfather's parents. They are Michele Vincenzo D'Errico and Antonia Maria D'Avolio. From that I've found quite a few more people in the D'Avolio family, but not much more in the D'Errico. I believe Michele Vincenzo is the son of Nunzio D'Errico, and he is the son of Tommaso.

By the way, how was Rodi? I've been interested in visiting.

The Family History Library has microfilms of birth records from 1809 - 1910 for Rodi Garganico. The films from 1866 - 1910 also contain marriages, marriage banns, and deaths. This is only part of their collection for Rodi. If you are unfamiliar with using this resource, here is an explanation:

Hope this helps!

This looks like his information. The only thing that is different is his birth month, which shows July, but on every other document I have it's June. Wonder why that is?

I've already written a letter to Rodi Garganico requesting his birth certificate, but I'll write another one to Carpino as well now.

Thanks so much for the help!

Ciao

yes, Carpino is the right birthplace, and the request must be made at Carpino.... abt the birth month it is a error, as so many other errors abt immigrants in USA.... by Carpino reply you can know if is right June or July...

I am also looking for related D'Errico's from the Rodi Garganico area, and like Eric, my family immigrated to Hoboken, NJ. Using the film at the LDS Family Research Center in my city, I found the birth record for my GGF Giuseppe D'Errico who was born in Rodi in February 1888. I am now attempting to find information on his parrents Tommaso D'Errico and Isabella Angelicchio, their names are all I know about them. Part of my problem is that I am finding so many D'Errico's on the microfilm, it is difficult reconciling them all and figuring out who is who. Does anyone have any idea of the best way to go about finding out info on his parents? How old should I assume my GGGF Tommaso was when my GGF Giuseppe was born? Any other tips for a newbie genealogist? Thanks.

great to hear you found your GGF's birth cert! Mine is proving a bit more difficult.

I'm sure people will have some really good tips on here. For me I try to use a bit of logic in working backward. Since we know Giuseppe's parents' names and his birthdate, we may be able to guess when they were married, assuming they were good Catholics ;-)

Thanks Eric, I think I will try going back 30 years before my GGF's birth and start my search for his father. I guess it is safe to assume that he was also born in Rodi Garganico. I hope I get lucky!
