Hi I've seen many of the msg boards about Girgenti and coming from Sicily and Agrigento. My grandfather was vincenzo girgenti, 3/9/1884-- he married josephine panceca (sp?) came over about 1908 into NY--stayed in NY - Brooklyn. 3 boys, salvatore- married Mary D'Orio, john --married Theresa & nicholas.( no nothing about him) He lived with mother in law--Millia (sp?) Panceca.(sp?) he was a tailor--became blind--lived in Red Hook died in 1970 in Bklyn, Ny.
I am trying to find more info--but can't find accurate info--some sites they have info with names spelled so different--not sure who it is..I'd like to even find out where my grandparents came from in Italy--- can anyone please help me i feel like i'm circling a drain
What US records have you already found? US censuses, WWI and WWII registration cards, etc?

You can write for Vincenzo's SS application. It should have place of birth and names of parents.

Thanks for the info----I did find the info you sent me--I believe that to be him---I guess I can ascertain that my grandmother and grandfather were married here in the US ( not sure tho -can't find anything about marriages) I can't seem to find his parents names or if he had any siblings---I can't find josephine(a) giussepina (?) when she even died. or where she was from in Italy--do u know how I'd be able to search that---I can't find her or her mother ( and I know there are a ton of misspellings) when they came over. How do you do this---u guys are amazing... Aderno is that anywhere near Girgenti /Agrigento and was it normal for people to be named after the name they may have lived in?

Don't be put off by the spellings here. There is a decent chance this is the record for your grandparents' marriage. According to the 1920 Census their oldest child is 3-1/2 years old. Marriage could very well have been in 1915!
This marriage record will have the names of parents for both bride and groom (including the maiden name of the mother), and the place the parents reside, and bride and groom were born.
A request at the above site is only about $12 - 15. Just put in the information about them, and the certificate number (noted above) and the borough (Manhattan).
Hi with your help I've advanced to this end: -Vincenzo Girgenti was born 1884 in Aderno, Italy died in NY in 1970----Came to US thru NY about 1907 was single---I believe married in ny to Giuseppina--( Panzeca) born in italy 1891- died in NY in 1950... her mother was born Carmela in Italy born 1868 buried in NY 1923. 1 son of vincenzo & giuseppina
( americanized to Josephine) is Salvatore joseph girgenti was born in NY 12/5/18 died in ny on 6/26ish/81- was married to Mary Diorio on 12/31/???? --another son was John Joseph married to Theresa and 3rd son Nicholas ( born abt 1917 in NY) I think married to a Vera. On the tomb stone it also lists a Benedetta Girgenti 1860- 1948 I guess born in italy buried in ny--not even quite sure hu she is...maybe vincenzo's mother(?)
SO I'm not finding any marriage info on anyone married here in the US--I see the other Giuseppina purpura but after looking at a picute of grave stone that is not them. Where can I search to at least narrow it down before I request something that may not be them? Again Much thanks
