What does the phrase 'Del Predetto' Mean?

Post by Irishinamerica »

OK - I've been wondering this for a few months. My great great grandfather's baptism record says 'del predetto' at the bottom when it talks about his essendo padrino e madrina.

So when it says:

Carlo 'del predetto' Giacomo Rolle (padrino) and then Maria 'del predetto' Bartolomeo Rolle (madrina)....what does this mean?

Thank you -- but I'm still not sure that I understand. I see that my great great grandfather's name was Giacomo Carlo Bartolomeo Rolle - and that it is explaining how the family gave him those names.

But Giacomo CB Rolle's father was Giuseppe -- and Giuseppe's father was also Giacomo Rolle.

What I'm not understanding is who 'Carlo' is.

Any ideas?

From what you wrote
My great great grandfather's baptism record says 'del predetto' at the bottom when it talks about his essendo padrino e madrina.

I understand that godfather was Carlo son of the aforesaid Giacomo Rolle and godmother was Maria daughter of the above mentioned Bartolomeo Rolle.

If you post the document I may be more precise.

No Bartolomeo Rolle is mentioned in the document and I would assume that the priest made a mistake and intended to write Bartolomeo Rostagno

Carlo is a brother of Giuseppe Rolle and Maria is a sister of Caterina Rostagno

Both Carlo and Bartolomeo, grandfathers of the newborn, were alive when he was baptized.
