Place of birth???

Post by DonnaPellegrin »

I have pasted into this post part of the death certificate for a certain man named Giuseppe DeBartolo. He died in Caccuri, Calabria in 1882. He may be the relative of my great-grandfather, Vincenzo DeBartolo who's name also appears on the document.

I am having difficulty reading the place of birth of Giuseppe DeBartolo. It is on the last line. It looks like "Montelaom," but I can find no such town in Calabria.

Also, Giuseppe DeBartolo's profession is written immediately after his age, anni sessantanove, ???????. Can anyone read what his profession was? I know that in 1862 he was working for the Sindaco, signing civil records, but I cannot read the profession written on this death certificate.

Any input would be welcome and appreciated!
Thanks!

Infinite thanks to you my friend, suanj! You just saved me from years of fruitless searches. I never would have known that Monteleone was now known as Vibo Valentia. This is certainly the right city. There are still DeBartolo families residing near there today.

I do not know why my website will not allow me to include the entire document. Perhaps it is too large. I have made several attempts. I can only seem to post part of the document. I have written the text below. The word in red continues to elude me. I believe it is the profession of Giuseppe DeBartolo. Still, you have helped me with the most critical issue. I believe I now know his city of birth! And again, suanj, I am in your debt. :D

Oh yeah, absolutely. I always walk away from this board with a bit more humility! Domestico, of course, domestico. The man was a servant. Laughing Out Loud!
