Find my Grandpa's family

Post by ladyhrly »

I am looking for any Information on my Grandpa...Pasquale Frank Cimaglia, he was born in Compobasso Italy on approx March 29, 1884...he and his wife Della (Dire) Cimaglia moved to the US via New York (Ellis Island) and he did live in Helper Utah (where I currenlty live) working for the railroad, then moved to Denver Colorado where he lived out his life. He had several children my father being the youngest...I would appreciate any information on Grandpa's family...in Italy. Much appreciated!

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Have you found his or her ship manifest yet? How about the 1920 census? Here are the details from that census:

Name: Pasqual Ciomaglia
[Pasqual Ciranaghia]
[Pasqual Cimaglia]
Home in 1920: Denver, Denver, Colorado
Age: 33
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1887
Birthplace: Italy
Relation to Head of House: Self (Head)
[Head]
Spouse's Name: Della Ciomaglia
Father's Birth Place: Italy
Mother's Birth Place: Italy
Marital Status: Married
Race: White
Sex: Male
Home owned: Rent
Year of immigration: 1905
Able to read: Yes
Able to Write: Yes
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
Pasqual Ciomaglia 33
Della Ciomaglia 27
Frank Ciomaglia 9
Mike Ciomaglia 7
Giovani Ciomaglia 3
[3 5/12]
Eva I Ciomaglia 1
[1 4/12]

It also notes that Della came over in 1902 with Pasquale arriving in 1905. Of course these dates aren't always correct on the census but this means that they did not come together but rather she most probably came with her family since she would have been a minor in 1902.

Here is the image of the 1920 Census that Tricia posted :-)

It appears that first son, Frank, was born in Colorado (about 1911)
Second son, Mike, was born in Utah
Third son, Giovanni, was born in Colorado
Just an observation if you begin to search for birth records :-)

On the 1930 Census, all the children are listed as born in Colorado...

Campobasso is both a city and a province in Molise Region.
To be able to request/search for birth records, you will need to know the exact place of birth.

Hopefully, the SS-5 will provide that if we don't find the information in other records we find. :-)

Glad to help! :-)

I'm sure that on the manifest Pasquale is going to his brother Domenico in Baltimore.
You might want to follow through on a search for Domenico if you know anything of his wife's name, or children. Finding his manifest, or other records may give you the place of birth to confirm.

Tessa78, Again thank you for the information so far...I did send away for the SS application and am anxious to get it back, I sent your inforamtion to my parents in the hopes my dad might be able to shed a bit more light on things, but cannot believe how quickly you helped me out. If I find any more info I will post that to you!
