Marino

Post by djmarino »

I have hit a brick wall with our Marino research and am hoping someone here can help me. Our great-great granfather, Frank Marino, was born in Palermo,Sicily Italy in 1859. His father's name was Frank P. Marino. Frank came to the US and was married twice, once to Eleonora and then to Cecilia. I have all the information for Frank's marriages and children, but have not been able to trace back any further other than having his Father's name and where they were from. Any suggestions????? Thanks!

Hello and welcome :-)

Do you have an arrival manifest for Frank? Do you know what year he immigrated?
Did his father immigrate as well?

What about a WWI Registration Card?

What do the documents you have (marriage, etc.) say about his EXACT place of birth? Palermo is both a city and a province. You will need to know which, or if he was born in a small town near Palermo.

Can you provide Frank's Date of birth and where he settled in US?

Thanks for the response. The only info I have on Frank Marino is that he immigrated to US in 1882, His father, Frank P. Marino did not come to the US. The District of Columbia Death & Burial records shows his birthplace as Palermo,Sicley,Italy. Frank was born in 1858. I don't have info on his 1st marriage other than her name was Eleonora, but his second wife Cecilia Geraci married him in 1893. Census records show she also immigrated to US in 1882 and was naturalized in 1916.

Frank settled first in Philadelphia Pennsylvania and after either the death or divorce of his wife Eleonora, he settled in Washington D.C. until he was killed in a streetcar accident. I have tried to get a copy of his death certificate, but have had no luck so far.

Frank's occupation was a fruit vendor at the Marketplace in D.C. I came across something that said a Frank Marino was a shoemaker when in Pennylvania, but I have not officially verified he is my Frank.
Frank died May 9,1926 in a streetcar accident in D.C., but I sent a request for a copy of the death certificate and nothing could be found. Yes - I just recently came across the information on Frank's 16 month daughter Eleonora who died in Pennsulvania. That is what put the fire under me to get back into my research - LOL

Suanj - that you for the information. Even though I'm not sure who T.W. is and the name is spelled different - the wife and children are familiar. Franks 2nd wife was Cecilia, his son from his previous marriage was Francis Paul and his son from his wife Cecilia was Salvador. I will ave to research that further.

I finally found the documents of Frank coming here from Italy. He came over on January 7, 1881 on the ship "Vincenzo Florio". Port of Departure was Palermo, Italy - Port of Arrival was New York. The log states that he was 22 years old. There were no other family members listed with him. He was listed as F. Paolo Marino.

Once he was living in the US, his name was listed as Francesco P. Marino/Frances P Marino/then finally Frank P. Marino.

Hi Suanj - thank you so much for the response. I have already found all of the above records for the Marino and Geraci families.

I did not know, however, that Termini Imerese was in the Palermo Province, Sicily. It is something I will definitely have to check into to see if there was any type of connection between these two families before they came to the USA.

Thank you.
