Info on Galante family

Hi Everyone,

This is my first time posting on this website. I am looking for information on the family Galante in the city Camden, NJ.

My great-grandfather is Pietro Galante. His tombstone lists his birth and death 10 April 1885 - 22 November 1952. I know that birth dates from the old country can get a little fuzzy. I know that he emigrated to the United States, but I have been unable to find a file on EllisIsland.org that is conclusively his. The only historical document I have related to him is the 1930 census, which lists his immigration date as 1907. That document is attached.

I realize this is a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone had information related to him or this family. In particular, I am trying to tie him back to Italy. Family folklore says southern Italy, perhaps Calabria. But it seems like the family, particularly the actual immigrants, did not care too much about where they were from; they were happy to be in the USA and wanted the family to be American.

If no one has such information, perhaps I can be directed to where to look for immigration records, particularly for Philadelphia, Penna., and Camden, NJ.

The Great War draft registration is certainly my great-grandfather, because of the name of his wife. The digital scan is very blurry, and I think it will contain more information if I can see the microfilm.

The Pietro Galanti in the Ellis Island record is probable, but I will have to corroborate. Confirming the name of his brother will help. I have not heard of Frank or Francesco before.

I am skeptical about the 1910 Census for Pietro Cilano. Especially without seeing the actual document. There is nothing to corroborate that this is my great-grandfather.

The Yalado of the 1920 Census, though the name is misspelled, is almost certainly my great-grandfather's family. This is proved by the name of the children. I am unsure about "Frank Galanli" without being able to see the record.

Finally, where did you find all these records? That would be a very useful resource indeed! And thank you once again for your kind assistance!

maybe the 1910 census is no correct, but is the only probable Pietro in Camden in 1910... the all other records are ok, also the arrival...
