Lauri/Santolini

Post by jay gulbin »

I am back again after a year of searching and nothing new to report on either family group....actually I am more confused than ever. The line on my Father's side traces back to Arquata del Tronto with a Lewis Lauri (changed to Laurie in the US). He was my Fathers grandfather. Lewis Lauri's father was a Vincenzo Lauri who was married to Filomena Santolini....

The issue I am having is the popular name and regular misspelling of Lauri on just about any document....(Lauro, Lawrie, Lowery, etc...)

I have sent a request to the government officials about a year ago and nothing in return yet. Does anyone know of any other routes to find out information, any tips?

Thank you for all of your help.

hello jay,

my family surname is capaldi, but most italian documents spell it capaldo. i also have tomasso name in my tree, but same again, when majority migrate, it gets changed to tomassi!

Your Family name is Lauri and Lauro!

Have a look at my source:

Seems like Lewis (luigi) had a sister called Maria who visited him in Berkley, Portsmouth, Va, USA.

Jamie, yes he did have a sister named Maria! That is great info...I will have to check all of these links out. Michael, thank you for the links....I have only been going through ancestry.com to get info and all of the records are so misleading.

Jamie, How did you know she visited him there? Luigi, I had no idea his name was Luigi....I have only seen Lewis on all documents.

These links provide information, but current information. I don't speak nor write in Italian, so I have no idea what to do with them. It would be cool to write them a letter to see if they might be relatives because it has been a year since I sent my request to the government for documentation and have heard nothing back.

Thanks jamie...the first one has results from people I have never heard of except the father, so I am not sure it is the same Vincenzo....

The second one however does look promising, but I am assuming Lewis actually was Luigi....I will research that some and see what I come up with. Thank you for looking in to this for me.

I think Jamie has something Jay the first page Mar 1921 says Maria Lauri age 25?? leaving father Vincenzo Lauri in Arquata del Tronto pg2 going to see brother Luigi Lauri in Berkley, Va and she was born in Arquata del Tronto
So that would put her birth date around 1896

Thanks guys, I have looked through all of the census records, us directories and such to see if there is a Luigi Lauri and his name is always Lewis on each document. I happened to see somewhere that Lewis could be Luigi in Italian but have not seen any evidence of that exactly yet. I will study this more because there are some close ideas going on with the place, the names and I know Lewis lived in Beckley West Virginia.

Thanks Michael, that is the exact article I saw...that is why I am thinking Lewis might be Luigi, but it's one of those "can't make a for sure call" situations. I would love to have concrete info. I have been searching for over a year and one open door leads to 3-4 more closed doors......One day, I may just make a trip to Arquata and see what I can find....gotta win the lottery first though, haha!

I can assure you Michael is right. If he was named in the Italian spelling or varient, it is Luigi. I have a distant cousin named Luigi, but was called Lou/Louis, etc
