Can't find family in Census

Post by LeandraCat »

Good day everyone,

I am looking for a family in the 1920 and 1940 Census that I simply cannot find.

Giovanni John Badami, born 1901, arrived with his mom and siblings from Baucina on November 17 1901. He was 10 months old. His mother died in 1918, she was a widow when they came to the US. Giovanni's siblings were living with various other siblings who were already married.

In the 1930 census, Frances Badami (John's sister) is married to William Seebeck, living in Staten Island, New York. John (a widower) and his daughter Elaine (b. 1921 in NY it says) are living with them.

I can't find John in the 1920 Census or the 1940 Census. I also have no idea whom he married, and I can't find Elaine-his daughter either!

Please help!

Thank you!

J.

John was also living in Connecticut in 1910 with his brother Domenick (and family), and brother Paul Badami

Hey suanj :D !
I'm having no luck finding Giovanni in 1920 or 1940.
Can't find his WWI card (born prob beg of 1901) or marriage either.
He was in NY city area in 1915 and Richmond County NY in 1930...

Julia :D , by any chance do you know Giovanni/John's birth date?

Thanks!
Valarie

hi Valarie I found a probable marriage record, the surname is mispelled but it could be the right John Badami:
Bodani John J Mar 17 1920 9568 (1920) Kings
Heaton Frances E Mar 17 1920 9568 (1920) Kings

what you think??

Hey suanj!
I think that is probably his record :D - we've seen many NY City records transcribed incorrectly
Perhaps he stayed in Brooklyn (Kings County, NY) where he lived in 1915 and where his mother died in 1918.
Perhaps, after his new wife died he moved to Richmond County for help raising his daughter (census 1930)
On the 1930 census it states daughter (?) Elaine's mother was born in NY.

Great record!

Thanks Valarie.. I believe that after Vincenza death, John thinked abt the marriage... maybe it could be possible find the family in the 1925 census of New York .... I no found a Frances E Badami death record, but I found:
Badamo Florence 23 y Feb 21 1925 4084 (1925) Kings 1901 - 1902
it could be John wife?

That certainly COULD be John's wife. If it IS, then the family SHOULD be in the 1925 NY census

In this 1925 census the daughter is the correct age
This John reports himself to be older than 1901 and born in US...
possible 1925 NY census

Hi Valarie.. seeming the right 1925 census... all matching... the discrepancies are abt the age and the birthplace... maybe LeandraCat can give better suggestion..
hugs,
suanj

Based on the marriage record for John J Badani...yes, it matches, since the spouse is Frances E.
