this is for a friend who is researching the Iuspa line from ariano di puglia:
he found this online from Gazzetta Ufficiale Del Regno D'Italia, dated April 5, 1893
"Iuspa Lorenzo vice cancelliere della pretura di Caggiano è tramutato alla pretura di Ariano di Puglia"
i would appreciate an accurate translation, as i wonder if that would help to make more sense as to how he 'converted' the courts.
caggiano is in salerno province. i am curious as to how the courts work. he is from ariano di puglia irpino. does one get appointed to the courts? through local elections? would a magistrate travel to other areas? if so, would that account his presence in caggiano other than that he moved.
thanks for your efforts,
donna

Re: help with translation, and the courts / local govt.
"tramutato" in this case means "Moved, transferred" from the court of Caggiano to the Court of Ariano di Puglia.
The decision was made by "Ministero di Grazia e Giustizia" through a decree issued March 25 1893 and published on the Gazzetta ufficiale on April 5.
Magistrates and judges are not elected by the citizens but are nominated by The Ministero di Grazia e Giustizia. Usually they are sent in a location where the presence of a Judge is needed. Often, on theyr request and if there was a vacancy they were assigned to the same location where they were born.
