Leopoldo Epifano

Post by Biff83 »

After a frustrating six year search, I thought I'd see if anyone here can help locate any other information on my grand uncle Leopoldo Epifano. Here's what I do know about him.

Born on 28 November 1869 in the town of San Mango d'Aquino Catanzaro. Parents Franceso Saverio Epifano (1842-1923) and Carmela Esposito (1845-1925).

Siblings Antonio (1867-1945), Angelo (1872-1951), Giuseppe (1889-1958), Saverio (1885-1964) and Palma (1876-1968). All four brothers emigrated to the US. Sister Palma remained in Italy.

First emigrated in 1900 per below manifest
http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0029

Returned to Italy in 1905 or early 1906 and accompanied my grandfather back to the US in May of 1906 per the following manifest, line 12.

He was married (spouse unknown) and supposedly had two children Angelina and Fiore. He may have settled somewhere in South America. If he returned to Italy, he did not die in San Mango since the town's vital records do not show a death date.

Other than the two manifests and his birth record, I've found nothing.

Thanks,
Biff

Bump.

Can someone direct me to online sites which contain immigration records for any countries in South America?

Thanks,
Biff

FamilySearch.org has listed some also. You can check out Rio de Janiero Immigration Cards, 1900 - 1965 here:

https://familysearch.org/search/collection/1932363

See the familysearch.org site for others that need browsing; or additions to the collection as they get added. Good Luck,

Hi Biff,

don't know if you already have seen this record., maybe it worth to be investigated..
From the site of CEMLA of the arrivals in the port of Buenos Aires:

NAme: FIORE, EPIFANIO
Age: 44
Civil status C (casado=married)
Occupation: CONTADOR
Religion: CATOLICA
Citizen: ITALIANA
Ship: MENDOZA
Departing from: GENOVA
Arrival date and port: 03/12/1950 - BUENOS AIRES
Born in: CATANZARO

Maybe you could check the births in san Mango and see if Leopoldo's son was born in that date....
I apologize if you already did these research...

Ciao

Laura,

Many thanks for that lead. It's the most promising one I've seen in the six plus years I've been trying to locate info on Leopoldo and his family. I will check with the Stato Civile office in San Mango to see if they have a birth record for Fiore.

Best,
Biff

Biff,
on the 1900 arrival manifest Leopoldo is listed as married, have you asked to San Mango to see if there's a marriage record for him?

Laura,

There is no marriage record on file in San Mango so he must have married in another comune. Likewise, there is no death record for him in San Mango so likely died in another comune or outside of Italy.

I thought I would bump this post from 2013 since there are a number of new folks who have come on board IG since then. The Ellis Island and Imageshack links are broken but don't contain any other pertinent info other than what's mentioned in the text.

I did check with the Stato Civile office in San Mango and there was no record of a Fiore Epifano born around 1904 in San Mango. Since Leopoldo was in the states from 1900 to about 1905/1906, this individual on the Buenos Aires arrivals could not be his son.

I have not been able to locate Leopoldo in the 1910 census so he either returned to Italy after May 1906 but before the 1910 census and/or emigrated to South America.

Thanks,
Biff

I thought I'd bump this once again since so many new records have come online. I've been trying now for 12 years to see if I could locate my grand uncle. The links to the manifests above no longer work but there are no clues on them which could help any further with the search. Any help appreciated.
