can someone help, Im trying to research my surname CARESIMO, its quite an unusual one and there are not many CARESIMO around,
Both my parents came from San Mauro Forte, My father;s surname is caresimo and he married into the Giammetta family. However my mother informs me that her father although was called Giammetta actually took his mother surname not his father's which was Moscato!
Can anyone point me in the right direction, is there a place I can download records ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

The Family History Center has microfilm for the town of San Mauro Forte. The film costs about $3.50 a roll. Here are the film numbers.

Here is the link to find the nearest FHC.

If you order the microfilm, you will be able to locate the Birth, Marriage, and Death Acts of your ancestors.
A good book to get is the A Genealogist's Guide to Discovering your Italian Ancestors, by Lynn Nelson.
Also, here is link for the town itself.

I hope this helps,

If you don't want to use the microfilm. And for the record, the microfilm from the Family History Center are copies of the actual documents. You will be able to find the Birth, Marriage, and Death Acts of your ancestors.
There isn't any place on the internet in order to download these records. You would have to go to a FHC in person to order and view the film.
However, you can always write to the town itself and try to get the documents that way.
On the website of the town is the towns address, and here is a link that would help you translate your letter.

Re: SAN MAURO FORTE, basilicata - CARESIMO SURNAME
I'm looking for Caiella's/Caiello's that emmigrated from the Campobasso area 1889 (ship: Burgundia). Head of household: Carmen, had young son Nicola born about 1880. Appreciate any info on the Caiella/o's...

Re: SAN MAURO FORTE, basilicata - CARESIMO SURNAME
I absolutely want to talk to you further. I am a Giammetta and have been working backwards from the US. My great-grandfather came over in 1897 and stayed with his brother (the manifest says he was born in Stigliano). However, on the Rootsweb.com site, there are several Giammetta's from Sicily. Your story is intriguing, please get in touch with me.
Thank you very much.
Elaine
